Gold Trend Resume (MT5): my setup guide and how to read the IS/OOS record
I develop Gold Trend Resume at D7 Bots for traders who want a selective approach to gold rather than constant market activity. It trades XAUUSD, looking for an established trend to resume after a pullback. This guide explains the setup I ask users to check, what the first execution messages mean, and how I read the historical evidence. It suits someone comfortable with variable trading activity and the exposure of a leveraged gold strategy.
What the EA does
Gold Trend Resume can take either buy or sell positions. It evaluates completed market data and waits for its trend-continuation setup. Before submitting an entry, it checks the trading instrument, available quotes and execution conditions. The tested configuration places a stop loss and a target with the order.
The trading symbol is selected explicitly; dragging the EA onto a different chart does not automatically change the instrument it trades. I use the published XAUUSD H4 host chart for the reference setup. The EA receives callbacks from chart ticks and works with its configured instrument's data. An uneventful first session can simply be a period of waiting.
Installation and the first run
I separate installation from proof of operation. Seeing the EA's name on a chart is the beginning of the check, not its conclusion. For an online first run, use a licensed copy in an existing demo environment.
- Locate the installed product. In MT5, find Gold Trend Resume under Expert Advisors in Navigator. Confirm that you are using this product rather than another gold EA or an old saved configuration.
- Check the instrument. In Market Watch, identify your broker's exact gold symbol and inspect its specification. Make the EA's configured trading instrument match that name, including any suffix or prefix. Load the symbol's history and confirm that quotes are updating.
- Open the reference chart. Use that gold instrument on H4 and attach the EA. Keep the strategy at its tested defaults. The risk per operation is adjustable; the published evidence uses 1.00% risk per operation. Leave the remaining strategy settings at the tested standard.
- Check trading permissions. For the demo chart run, enable the platform's Algo Trading control and the EA's permission to use algorithmic trading in its properties. Confirm the terminal is connected and the chart is receiving ticks.
- Read the initialization entry. Open the Experts tab in the Toolbox. The current release's GoldTrendResume initialization message contains release initialized. Check the trading symbol and host chart reported there. A missing initialization entry or a platform initialization error calls for checking the symbol and restoring the tested settings before proceeding.
- Observe, then keep a record. Inspect subsequent Experts entries and the Trade tab. Record the installed version, broker symbol, host chart, test dates and relevant error messages. Successful initialization confirms setup reached that stage; it does not mean an order was accepted.

What I check in Experts when nothing happens
The release prints operational rejections with the prefix GoldTrendResume: reject, followed by a stage and a code. I read the code before changing anything. SESSION_CLOSED identifies a closed trading session; INVALID_TICK identifies unusable quote data; SPREAD_GUARD means the spread check blocked the attempt. These messages call for checking the broker environment, not changing the strategy to force activity.
INVALID_VOLUME means sizing did not produce an acceptable volume, while ORDER_REJECTED means the order attempt was not accepted. For those, preserve the surrounding log and broker conditions for support. FOREIGN_POSITION identifies a position on the configured symbol that belongs to a different trading identity.
Some waits are silent. The source returns without a custom rejection message while required symbol data or history is not synchronized or sufficiently available. A quiet Experts tab therefore needs to be read together with connection status, quotes and loaded history. I do not treat silence as evidence that a trade should already have appeared.
Reading the published IS/OOS evidence
I start with the test identity: MetaQuotes-Demo, model 1 and a virtual initial deposit of USD 10,000 for each test. Then I read both periods, rather than selecting whichever curve looks more comfortable.
- IS: 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2024. Net profit USD +1,143.27; 143 trades; profit factor 1.14; maximum balance drawdown 13.02%.
- OOS: 1 January 2025 to 3 October 2026. Net profit USD +1,139.09; 46 trades; profit factor 1.57; maximum balance drawdown 5.68%.
The positive IS total includes difficult years: the page reports USD -357.93 in 2020 and USD -227.78 in 2021. I keep those years in view when considering the later period.

Is the OOS too good to be true? A higher profit factor and a smaller drawdown in a later period are not, by themselves, proof of a problem. Here the later net profit is close to the earlier total, but comes from fewer trades across a shorter window. These are different observations, not equivalent durations. Each window comes from its own Strategy Tester run, and its metrics remain those of the original run. The gallery joins the two closed-balance curves with a display offset. Those are the checks I use to assess the claim, rather than the shape of the curve alone. I would investigate a reproduction mismatch against the saved setup and reports, instead of adjusting settings until the result looks attractive.
Limits of this record
The evidence is a historical MetaQuotes-Demo simulation, not live profit or real-tick validation. Broker contracts, tick values, spreads, swap, stop and freeze distances, minimum volume, margin and sessions can change execution. Different host charts can also change the callback sequence; matching aggregate results does not establish full host parity. The joined chart is neither a continuous account replay nor an equity curve showing floating losses. The published tests used 1.00% risk. Higher settings accepted by the EA, up to 10.00%, were not measured in that evidence and can greatly increase loss and drawdown. Protective orders do not guarantee an execution price. Reference ledger costs were IS swap USD -243.30 and OOS swap USD -33.60, with commission USD 0.00 in each window. These costs are included in net results and are not a broker-independent cost model. Historical results do not guarantee future performance.
Questions I address before first use
My broker adds a suffix to gold. What should I do? Use the exact broker symbol in the trading-symbol selection and check that same instrument in the initialization entry. The EA selects the name you provide; it does not search automatically for a replacement asset.
Do I need a netting or hedging account? The inspected release has no account-mode restriction to either type and uses MT5's account-aware trading functions. That is not a certification for every broker. Check it in your own demo environment and avoid sharing the gold position with other trading activity, particularly on a netting account.
Is a VPS compulsory? No specific VPS service is required by the EA. It needs a running, connected MT5 terminal receiving ticks. A VPS is an alternative place to run that terminal, not a change to the strategy. Verify the deployed setup and log after moving it.
Can I use the free demo on a demo-account chart? The free Market demo runs in the MT5 Strategy Tester, not on an online chart. A demo-account chart requires a licensed copy. In the Tester, keep the broker, symbol, period and configuration recorded with the report.
Can I run it beside other EAs? I keep a single Gold Trend Resume instance for the configured symbol and avoid manual or other-EA positions on that symbol. Duplicate copies can identify the same position as their own; the foreign-position guard is not isolation between duplicates. Other symbols share the account's margin and equity, so I would assess the combined setup separately.
