LineTrader Pro User Guide
Version 1.10
MetaTrader 4
1. Introduction
LineTrader Pro is a manual trade execution, position-sizing, and trade-management utility for MetaTrader 4. It is designed for traders who want precise, easy control over Entry, Stop Loss, Take Profit, position sizing, Breakeven, trailing-stop management, and order execution.
LineTrader Pro does not generate trade signals or decide market direction. You determine the setup. LineTrader Pro helps you plan, size, place, and manage the trade.
2. Installing and Attaching LineTrader Pro
2.1 Installing the EA
If you purchased LineTrader Pro through the MQL5 Market, first sign in to your MQL5.community account in MetaTrader 4 under Tools > Options > Community.
Then open View > Terminal, select the Market tab, open Purchased, locate LineTrader Pro, and click Install.
After installation, LineTrader Pro appears under Expert Advisors in the Navigator, where it can be attached to the desired chart.
2.2 Allowing Live Trading
For live or demo order execution, make sure MetaTrader's AutoTrading control is enabled and that live trading is allowed for the Expert Advisor.
- Make sure the AutoTrading button on the main MetaTrader toolbar is enabled.
- When attaching LineTrader Pro, open the Common tab in the Expert Advisor properties window.
- Check Allow live trading.
- Click OK.
- Confirm that the LineTrader Pro status shows AutoTrading is ON.
If AutoTrading or live-trading permission is disabled, LineTrader Pro blocks actions that require broker execution and displays a warning.
2.3 Choose the Correct Chart
LineTrader Pro operates on the symbol and chart to which it is attached. Confirm that you are working on the intended symbol before preparing or placing a trade.
3. Basic Trade Workflow
LineTrader Pro is designed to keep the trading decision with the trader while making the execution process more structured.
A typical trade can be prepared and executed as follows:
- Confirm the EA Inputs and the on-chart position-sizing values.
- Make sure the panel is unlocked.
- Select Market Orders or Pending Orders.
- Click Buy Trade Lines or Sell Trade Lines.
- Position the Stop Loss, Take Profit, and—when using a Pending Order—the Entry line.
- Review the trade information and the READY / NOT READY status.
- Press Execute Buy or Execute Sell.
- If confirmation is enabled, press Confirm Buy or Confirm Sell.
- After the order is accepted, LineTrader Pro switches to pending-order or live-trade management mode.
READY / NOT READY
READY means the required conditions checked by LineTrader Pro are currently satisfied.
NOT READY means one or more conditions need attention. The on-chart status or alert identifies the issue.
LineTrader Pro's pre-trade checks include AutoTrading status, trading permission, server connection, required trade lines, valid Entry/Stop Loss/Take Profit geometry, positive risk, broker lot restrictions, available margin, broker stop-level requirements, and spread-related conditions.
If a setup fails validation, LineTrader Pro blocks the trade rather than quietly changing the intended risk or order structure.
4. Position Sizing
LineTrader Pro supports three position-sizing methods. Only one method controls position size at a time.
4.1 Fixed Lots
If Fixed Lots is greater than zero, it has first priority and directly sets the requested lot size.
If the entered lot size is below the broker's minimum, LineTrader Pro does not silently increase it. It warns you and blocks the trade until the value is corrected.
4.2 Fixed Risk $
If Fixed Lots is 0.00 and Fixed Risk $ is greater than zero, LineTrader Pro calculates lot size so that the approximate Entry-to-Stop Loss risk equals the entered dollar amount.
4.3 Risk %
If Fixed Lots is 0.00 and Fixed Risk $ is $0.00, Risk % controls sizing.
Risk % is calculated from Account Balance and the distance between Entry and Stop Loss.
For example, a Risk % setting of 1.00 tells LineTrader Pro to calculate a lot size intended to risk approximately 1% of Account Balance if Stop Loss is reached.
4.4 Sizing Priority
The priority is:
- Fixed Lots
- Fixed Risk $
- Risk %
LineTrader Pro visually highlights the active sizing method so you can see which value is controlling the calculation.
5. Market Orders and Pending Orders
5.1 Market Orders
In Market Orders mode, the Entry follows the live market price.
Position the Stop Loss and Take Profit, review the calculated trade information, and then execute the Buy or Sell.
After the order opens, LineTrader Pro switches to:
LIVE TRADE - MANAGING POSITION
The panel then prioritizes management of the existing position.
5.2 Pending Orders
In Pending Orders mode, drag the Entry line to the desired future entry price.
LineTrader Pro automatically determines the correct pending-order type from the direction and Entry location.
Depending on the setup, LineTrader Pro can submit:
- Buy Stop
- Buy Limit
- Sell Stop
- Sell Limit
You do not need to select the specific pending-order type manually.
After the order is accepted, LineTrader Pro switches to:
PENDING ORDER - MANAGING
The Entry, Stop Loss, Take Profit, and planned trade area remain visible. Use Cancel Pending if you want to remove the order.
If Cancel Pending Orders if price hits SL or TP first? is enabled, LineTrader Pro can also cancel the pending order if price reaches the planned Stop Loss or Take Profit area before Entry is triggered.
6. Auto Take Profit
The Auto TP button toggles automatic Take Profit placement ON or OFF.
When Auto TP is ON, LineTrader Pro automatically positions the Take Profit using the configured reward-to-risk multiple. The starting multiple comes from the Default Target Reward-to-Risk Ratio EA Input.
For example, if the Default Target Reward-to-Risk Ratio is set to 2.0, LineTrader Pro initially targets approximately 2R.
If CommsPerLot is entered, LineTrader Pro includes the estimated commission cost in the reward calculation and can extend the target so the selected R multiple reflects the entered commission.
When Auto TP is OFF, LineTrader Pro does not automatically reposition the Take Profit from the selected R-multiple. The Take Profit line remains available for manual placement and adjustment.
7. Breakeven Management
7.1 Breakeven AUTO
With Breakeven set to AUTO, LineTrader Pro displays a Breakeven trigger line between Entry and Take Profit.
You may drag that line to the trigger location you want.
When price reaches the selected trigger on a live trade, LineTrader Pro moves the Stop Loss according to the Breakeven settings.
7.2 Breakeven OFF
When Breakeven is OFF, the Breakeven trigger line is removed and the separate automatic Breakeven trigger-line feature is disabled.
Trailing Stop remains independent and can still make its own protective Stop Loss move if Trailing Stop is ON.
Turning AUTO back on recreates the Breakeven line when appropriate.
7.3 MOVE TO BE NOW
Manual Breakeven is available when a live trade has moved far enough into profit for the Stop Loss to be moved safely beyond Entry.
It is a two-step action:
- Press MOVE TO BE NOW
- Press CONFIRM BE Now
With Breakeven set to OFF, once the trade is eligible, the Breakeven control changes to MOVE TO BE NOW.
Pressing CONFIRM BE Now moves the live Stop Loss immediately to Breakeven plus the configured Lock-in Points and, when CommsPerLot is used, the estimated commission-equivalent points.
If the confirmation is not completed within approximately 10 seconds, the control returns to its normal state.
Important: Trailing Stop is a separate trade-management function. If Trailing Stop is ON, it may move the Stop Loss automatically when its trigger condition is reached even when Breakeven is OFF.
8. Trailing Stop Management
LineTrader Pro provides two trailing-stop methods:
- PercentTSL
- ATR(500)TSL
The trailing-stop controls are available directly from the on-chart panel.
8.1 Trailing Stop ON / OFF
When Trailing Stop is OFF, LineTrader Pro does not actively trail the Stop Loss.
Press the control to switch to Trailing Stop ON. When ON, LineTrader Pro applies the selected trailing method to an eligible live position.
8.2 PercentTSL
When PercentTSL is selected, the trailing distance is based on a percentage of the original Entry-to-Stop-Loss distance.
At the default setting of 100%, the trailing distance is approximately equal to the original Stop Loss distance.
For example:
- Original Stop distance of 500 points → trailing distance approximately 500 points
- Original Stop distance of 1,000 points → trailing distance approximately 1,000 points
If the percentage is changed to 50, the trailing distance becomes approximately half of the original Stop Loss distance.
8.3 ATR(500)TSL
When ATR(500)TSL is selected, the trailing distance is based on ATR(500) multiplied by the configured ATR trailing multiple.
At the default multiplier of 2.0, the trailing distance is approximately:
2 × ATR(500)
This allows the trailing distance to adapt to current market volatility.
8.4 When the Trailing Stop Begins
Before the trade has reached Breakeven, LineTrader Pro waits for favorable movement equal to the selected trailing distance before making its first protective Stop Loss move.
At that point, LineTrader Pro first moves the Stop Loss to Breakeven plus the configured Lock-in Points and any applicable commission adjustment.
After that initial protective move, LineTrader Pro continues trailing the Stop Loss at the selected trail distance as price moves favorably.
Because trailing-stop settings can materially affect exits, practice both trailing methods on a demo account before relying on them with meaningful live capital.
9. Trade Rectangles and Chart Visuals
LineTrader Pro can display shaded Buy and Sell trade rectangles to make the planned trade area easier to see on the chart.
The default colors are:
- Buy: Aquamarine
- Sell: LightPink
Both colors can be changed in the EA Inputs.
Trade rectangles can also be turned off with the Show shaded rectangles around trade setups? Input.
When consecutive trade rectangles would overlap, LineTrader Pro trims the earlier rectangle so the chart remains readable.
LineTrader Pro also uses chart markers and labels for Entry, Stop Loss, Take Profit, and related trade information.
10. Managing an Open Trade
After entry, LineTrader Pro remains focused on the managed position.
Enabled functions such as Breakeven and Trailing Stop continue operating while the trade is open.
Use Close Live Trade when you want to close the managed position.
If AutoTrading is disabled, LineTrader Pro displays a clear warning rather than allowing a trade operation to fail without explanation.
11. Removing, Reattaching, and Changing Timeframes
LineTrader Pro is designed to resume management of an existing LineTrader trade after common chart changes.
Testing has confirmed continued management after:
- Changing chart timeframes
- Removing and reattaching LineTrader Pro
- Replacing the EA with an updated build while a trade was already open
Even so, always verify the panel state after making changes to a live chart.
12. Common Messages and Troubleshooting
AutoTrading is OFF
Enable AutoTrading before attempting an operation that requires order execution or modification.
Fixed Lots below broker minimum
Increase Fixed Lots to at least the broker minimum, or use another sizing method.
NOT READY
Read the status or warning message. Common causes include invalid line geometry, missing trade lines, trading permission, lot restrictions, spread limits, or insufficient margin.
No live trade to close
There is currently no managed live position.
No pending order to cancel
There is currently no managed pending order.
Breakeven line is not visible
Confirm that Breakeven is set to AUTO. If it is OFF, LineTrader Pro intentionally removes the Breakeven line.
Trailing Stop does not move immediately
Confirm that Trailing Stop is ON, review the selected PercentTSL or ATR(500)TSL distance, and remember that sufficient favorable price movement is required before a trailing move becomes eligible.
13. Recommended First-Time Practice
Before using LineTrader Pro with meaningful live capital, become familiar with it on a demo account or with very small risk.
Practice:
- Review the EA Inputs and identify the values you intend to customize.
- Lock and unlock the panel and observe the safety behavior.
- Change CommsPerLot, Risk %, Fixed Lots, and Fixed Risk $ from the panel.
- Switch among the three sizing methods and verify which one is highlighted.
- Create Buy and Sell trade lines.
- Switch between Market Orders and Pending Orders.
- Place and close a small market trade.
- Place and cancel a pending order.
- Turn Auto TP ON and OFF.
- Turn Breakeven AUTO and OFF and move the Breakeven trigger line.
- Practice MOVE TO BE NOW when a live trade is eligible.
- Turn Trailing Stop ON and OFF.
- Switch between PercentTSL and ATR(500)TSL.
- Observe the trade rectangles and line labels.
- Turn AutoTrading off temporarily and observe LineTrader Pro's safety response.
The goal is to understand the controls before relying on them during a fast-moving market.
14. Important Trading Notice
LineTrader Pro is a trade-execution and management utility. It is not a trading system, signal service, or guarantee of trading results.
Trading leveraged financial instruments involves substantial risk. LineTrader Pro cannot eliminate market risk, slippage, gaps, broker execution differences, platform interruptions, internet failures, or user error.
The trader remains responsible for all trading decisions, order levels, risk settings, and account activity.
