What is GOBLIN?
GOBLIN is a rule based intraday trading system built around 3 independent low corrolated trading edges. The edges primarily trade failed breakouts around important market levels, including the opening range and previous day levels.Each edge has its own logic and can take trades independently. The idea behind GOBLIN is simple: Find a repeatable market behavior, test it aggressively, and automate it without adding unnecessary complexity.
Robustness Testing
A strategy looking good in a backtest is not enough. The purpose of the robustness testing was to find out whether the trading edge survives when the conditions are made less favorable.
The testing process included and passed:
- In sample and out of sample testing.
- Fees 2x.
- Delayed Entries.
- Random Entry Null.
- Monte Carlo.
- Walk Forward.
- Probability of backtest overfitting.
- Look ahead audit.
- Harvey-Liu haircut.
- Neighbour test.

The goal of these tests was not to make the backtest look better. It was to try to find reasons why the edge might not be real. No robustness test can guarantee future profitability, but these tests give us more information than simply looking at one historical equity curve.
The 3 edges
Edge 1: The first edge looks for a failed breakout of the opening range, combined with an outside bar filter and a previous day level filter.
Edge 2: The second edge also trades failed opening range breakouts, but uses a different market condition filter based on the beginning of the month.
Edge 3: The third edge uses a volatility of volatility filter together with the failed opening range breakout setup and previous day levels.
The three edges are not required to agree with each other. Each edge can generate its own trade independently.
Market & Trading Hours
GOBLIN is designed only for NAS100 / US100 on the 5-minute (M5) timeframe.
The EA trades from 11:00 PM to 5:00 PM GMT+3 and does not open new trades outside this time window.

The strategy was built around a simple idea: find repeatable market behavior, test it aggressively, and automate it without adding unnecessary complexity. The robustness testing is there to challenge the strategy, not to promise that it will continue performing exactly the same way in the future. Live trading can differ because of spreads, slippage, execution, liquidity, broker conditions and changes in market behavior.
