Classic Lunar Surfer MT5 is an automated Expert Advisor for gold (XAUUSD) on MetaTrader 5. It waits for calm moments when gold has moved out of balance, enters once, and steps out when balance returns or the profit target is reached.
It holds one position at a time, and every position has a real stop loss from the moment it opens. The trading logic is preset, so there is nothing to optimize. You choose the lot size, the stop loss mode, the news filter and the display.

How it trades
- Fully automated: it finds the setup, opens the trade and manages it until it closes.
- One position at a time. No grid, no martingale, no averaging and no lot increase after a loss.
- It trades only in calm conditions and stays out when gold turns hectic.
- New trades open during the hours you set, 01:02 to 23:58 server time by default, so the daily rollover is skipped. An open trade stays protected by its stop loss around the clock.
Exits and protection
- Every trade carries a real stop loss on the broker's server. It protects the trade even if your terminal or VPS goes offline.
- The adaptive stop loss is sized for each trade from current gold volatility and is never wider than 400 pips (40 USD of gold price). A fixed stop in pips is available instead.
- A trade closes at its profit target, or earlier once the move has played out and part of the target is banked.
- A money guard is a second line of protection if price jumps past the stop.
News filter
- It reads the economic calendar built into MetaTrader 5. No web addresses or extra setup are needed.
- Around high-impact USD and EUR releases it opens no new trades. Medium impact can be added, and you set the minutes before and after.
- For a trade that is already open when a pause starts, you choose: keep it, close it if it is in profit, or close it.
- Upcoming releases appear on the chart as thin vertical lines with their names, and the dashboard counts down to the next one.
- MetaTrader 5 does not provide the calendar in the Strategy Tester, so the filter works on live and demo charts only.
Dashboard and chart
- A compact dashboard shows the status, today's and total result, the open position, its stop loss distance, the next news release, the spread and the server time.
- An optional clean chart style with quiet candles. Your own chart colours return when the Expert Advisor is removed.
Position size
- Fixed lot, 0.01 by default.
- Or a lot step per balance, for example 0.01 lot for every 1,000 of balance. With 1,000, a balance of 1,999 trades 0.01 lot and a balance of 2,000 trades 0.02.
Requirements
- Symbol: XAUUSD (gold) with any broker prefix or suffix, for example XAUUSD, XAUUSD.m, XAUUSDm or GOLD. Attach the Expert Advisor to one gold chart, on any timeframe.
- EURUSD must be available on the same account. The Expert Advisor reads its price feed as reference data and adds it to the Market Watch by itself. It never trades EURUSD.
- Hedging or netting account.
Recommendations
- Account: low spreads. Raw or ECN accounts suit it well.
- Server time: the default hours suit GMT+2 and GMT+3 servers, the most common setting. On other servers, shift the trading hours so the daily rollover stays outside them.
- Balance: 1,000 USD or more for each 0.01 lot is a comfortable start. The lot step mode grows the lot with the balance.
- Leverage: 1:100 or higher.
- Run it on a VPS so open trades are managed without interruption.
- Backtesting: "Every tick based on real ticks" gives the most accurate results. "1 minute OHLC" is faster for a first look. Do not use "Open prices only".
Settings
Position size
- Lot mode: fixed lot, or a lot size for every balance step.
- Lot size: 0.01 by default.
- Balance for each lot step: used in step mode, 1,000 by default.
Stop loss
- Stop loss: adaptive, sized for each trade up to 400 pips, or a fixed distance.
- Fixed stop loss, pips: used in fixed mode, 400 by default. On gold 1 pip is 0.10.
News filter
- Pause new trades around news: on by default.
- News impact: high, or high and medium.
- Minutes before the news and minutes after the news: 30 and 30 by default.
- Open trade when a pause starts: keep it, close it if it is in profit, or close it.
- Show upcoming news on the chart: on by default.
Trading hours (server time)
- Start hour and minute, end hour and minute: 01:02 to 23:58 by default.
- No new trades late on Friday, with its own hour and minute: off by default.
Other
- Magic number: identifies this Expert Advisor's trades. Use a different number for a second copy.
- Order comment: the text shown on each order.
- Max spread to open a trade, in points: 0 turns it off.
- Show dashboard. Clean chart style.
Questions and answers
Does it use martingale, grid or averaging?
No. It holds one position at a time with its own stop loss, and the lot size never grows after a loss.
Do I need to optimize it?
No. The trading logic is preset for gold. Set the lot size and the news filter to suit your account.
Which timeframe should I use?
Any. Attach it to an XAUUSD chart and it reads the data it needs on its own.
Why does it need EURUSD?
It reads the EURUSD price feed as reference data. It does not trade EURUSD and never opens a position on it.
The dashboard shows EURUSD NEEDED. What do I do?
Your account does not list EURUSD under a name the Expert Advisor can find. Open the Market Watch, choose Show All, check that EURUSD is there, then attach the Expert Advisor again.
Why does the news filter show Live charts only in the Strategy Tester?
MetaTrader 5 does not provide the economic calendar in the tester. On live and demo charts the filter is active.
How many trades can be open at once?
One.
Can I run it next to other Expert Advisors?
Yes. Give it its own magic number. It manages only its own trades.
Can I use it on other symbols?
It is built for gold only. On other symbols it runs a basic mode that is not tuned for them, so use it on XAUUSD.
What does basic mode on the dashboard mean?
The chart is not gold, or the gold history is not complete yet. Attach it to an XAUUSD chart and let MetaTrader 5 load the history.
