Gold London Range Breakout

Gold London Range Breakout trades one clean idea on XAUUSD: the breakout of the quiet Asian range when London opens.

Every day it measures the high and low of the range, places a Buy Stop above and a Sell Stop below, and cancels the other order as soon as one fills (OCO). One trade per day at most. No martingale, no grid, no averaging, no hedging. Every trade has a stop loss and a take profit from the moment it is placed.

How it trades

  • Range between two server hours (default 03:00 to 08:00)
  • Range filter in % of price, so it keeps working as gold moves from 1,800 to 4,000 and beyond. Days with a range that is too small or too wide are skipped.
  • Stop loss at the other side of the range, capped at a maximum % of price
  • Take profit as a reward:risk multiple (default 2.5R)
  • Break-even after 1.5R
  • Unfilled orders deleted at the cutoff hour, open trades closed at the end of the day. Nothing is left over the night.
  • Lot size from risk % of equity (default 1%), or a fixed lot
  • Spread filter, optional Monday and Friday off, magic number

Backtest (Strategy Tester, every tick based on real ticks, 98% history quality, XAUUSD H1, 2023.01.01 to 2026.09.30, 5,000 USD, 1% risk)

  • Net profit: +6,860 USD (+137%)
  • Profit factor: 1.38
  • Maximum equity drawdown: 17.3%
  • Trades: 715, win rate 49%
  • Out-of-sample: the default settings were chosen on 2023 to 2025 data only. On 2026 data, which was not used for optimization, the profit factor was 1.61 over 157 trades.

Recommendations

  • Symbol: XAUUSD (any suffix). Timeframe: any, the EA reads M5 data itself. H1 is recommended.
  • Account: from 2,000 USD at 1% risk. On smaller accounts the minimum lot of 0.01 is more than 1% risk, so the EA uses 0.01 (option "use minimum lot") and the drawdown will be higher.
  • Session hours are in broker server time. The defaults fit brokers on GMT+2/GMT+3. If your broker uses a different time zone, shift the hours.
  • A VPS is recommended so the orders are placed every day.
