BTC Box Breakout

BTC Box Breakout is an automated Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5 built for Bitcoin (BTCUSD).

How it works

Every trading day the advisor measures the highest and lowest price of a fixed server-time window (by default 05:00 to 09:00). When the window closes it draws the box on the chart and places a Buy Stop at the box high and a Sell Stop at the box low. Whichever side breaks first is traded. In the default single-trade mode the opposite order is cancelled as soon as one side fills. If price has already moved through a box edge when the orders are due, the advisor enters that side at market instead. At a fixed daily time (default 20:00) every remaining order is deleted and every open position is closed.

Bitcoin trades seven days a week. By default the advisor opens no new trades on Saturday and Sunday (server time); you can switch weekend trading on.

Every position has a stop loss from the moment it is opened, set as a percentage of the entry price (default 1.0%). A take profit based on a multiple of the box size is optional.

Risk management

• Risk per trade as a percentage of balance, a fixed money amount, or a fixed lot size
• Lot sizes follow your broker's own volume step (0.01, 0.001, 0.1 ...)
• A maximum-lot safety cap that applies in every mode
• Choice of what happens when the requested risk is smaller than the broker's minimum lot: trade the minimum lot, or skip the trade
• Volume, free margin, broker stop level and pending-order limits are checked before every request
• An optional maximum spread for market entries

Prop-firm consistency guard (optional, off by default)

When enabled, the advisor keeps a record of every day's account result and calculates how much profit today may reach without the best day exceeding the percentage of total profit your firm allows. Close to that limit it closes its positions and stops for the day. If you also run Golden Box Breakout on the same account in the same terminal, both advisors share one record, so the rule is applied to the whole account.

• Optional safe pyramiding with a percentage trigger: up to 3 adds, each using the previous entry as its stop loss (off by default)
• Optional randomization of entry time, stop distance, lot size and close time by small amounts (off by default)
• Restart-safe: resumes the day after a terminal or VPS restart without duplicate orders
• On-chart status panel
• Unique magic number per symbol and account, or set your own

Backtest results (for information only; past results do not guarantee future results)

Strategy tester, BTCUSD H1, 1-minute OHLC modelling, 1 January 2020 to 30 September 2026, 10,000 USD starting balance, default settings (0.5% risk per trade, 1.0% stop loss, no weekend trading):

• Net profit: 11,637 USD (+116%)
• Profit factor: 1.15
• Maximum equity drawdown: 27.9%
• 1,737 trades, 37.3% winning (winners are larger than losers on average)
• By year: 2020 +39.5%, 2021 +37.6%, 2022 -12.2%, 2023 -6.4%, 2024 +8.3%, 2025 +3.0%, 2026 (to 30 September) +22.9%

The strategy does best when Bitcoin trends during the day and gives back profit in quiet, choppy years such as 2022 and 2023. Expect long flat or losing periods. Results on your broker will differ with spread, commission, swap and server time zone. Please run your own backtest with the free demo before buying.

Recommendations

• Symbol: BTCUSD (any broker suffix). The advisor runs on any chart timeframe because it reads 1-minute data internally; H1 is convenient.
• Server time: the default times assume a GMT+2/GMT+3 server. If your broker's server runs on GMT+0, use a box of 02:00 to 06:00 and a close at 17:00.
• Minimum balance: about 2,000 USD. At 1.0% stop loss one 0.01 BTC position risks about 8 to 11 USD at recent prices.
• Use a VPS.

Range Time Settings

• Range Start Hour / Minute, Range End Hour / Minute: the server-time window that forms the box

Session Close Settings

• Close/Delete Hour / Minute: daily time when orders are deleted and positions are closed

Risk Settings

• Risk Mode: % of balance, fixed money amount, or fixed lot
• Risk % of Balance / Fixed Risk $ per Trade / Fixed Lot Size
• Stop-Loss % from open price
• MAX Lots Safety Cap
• If risk is below broker min lot: trade the minimum lot (true) or skip the trade (false)
• Use Take Profit / Take Profit Factor (x box size)

Trade Direction

• Trade Both Directions (false = one trade per day)
• Trade Saturday & Sunday

Visual Settings

• Range Box Color, Transparency, Show High/Low Labels

EA Settings

• Slippage (points), Magic Number (0 = automatic), Max Spread for market entries (0 = off)

Prop-Firm Consistency Rule

• Enable, Best Day Max % of Total Profit, net or profitable-days basis, minimum daily cap, optional fixed daily cap, alert level, seed values

Compounding / Pyramiding Settings

• Enable, % price move to trigger each add, number of adds, add size multiplier, move stop to previous entry

Randomization Settings

• Enable, maximum entry delay, lot variance %, stop-loss buffer, close-time variance

Notes

The advisor does not use martingale, grid or averaging. It does not use DLLs or external files and does not connect to any web service. Set files and a user guide are available to buyers on request through MQL5 private messages, and in the product's Comments section.
