Currency Strength Meter ranks the eight major currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CAD, AUD, NZD) from strongest to weakest over a recent period. It uses all 28 pairs they form, so it shows whether a move belongs to one currency or to the other side of the pair.
How it works
- For each pair the indicator takes the percent change between the last closed bar and the bar N bars before it on the chosen timeframe (24 H1 bars by default).
- A currency gains that change when it is the base of a pair and loses it when it is the quote. Its strength is the average over the pairs it appears in.
- Broker symbol names are handled automatically. The suffix is taken from the chart symbol (for example ".pro" or "m" after EURUSD), or you can type a prefix and suffix yourself.
- Pairs your broker does not offer are skipped. The panel shows how many of the 28 pairs were used.
- The panel lists the currencies from strongest to weakest, with the value in percent and a small bar scaled to the largest move. It refreshes every few seconds.
Inputs
- Strength: timeframe, lookback in bars, symbol prefix and suffix, refresh interval.
- Display: font size, panel corner.
Limits
- To read their history, the pairs found are added to Market Watch.
- On first use the terminal may need a moment to download history for all pairs; values appear as data arrives.
- Strength is a relative measure over the chosen window. It describes what already happened and does not predict the next move.
The indicator does not trade or give signals.
