Average Daily Range (ADR) Panel shows how far a symbol usually travels in a day and how much of that typical range today has already covered. It is a quick way to judge whether today is quiet, normal or unusually active.
How it works
- The daily range is the D1 bar's high minus its low. ADR is the average of that range over the last 5, 10 and 20 completed days; today's unfinished day is not included.
- Today's range is the current D1 bar's high minus its low so far.
- "Used of ADR" is today's range divided by the ADR you select (10 days by default). It turns amber at 100% or more. "Remaining" is the part of the average range not yet covered.
- Optional reference levels on intraday charts:
- today's low + ADR: where the high would sit if today makes an average-sized range from its current low;
- today's high - ADR: where the low would sit from its current high.
- Ranges can be shown in price, points, forex pips or percent of price.
Inputs
ADR length used for the percentage and levels, display unit, reference levels on/off and their colours, panel corner.
Limits
- Days follow the broker's server day, which can differ from your local calendar or from other brokers.
- If D1 history is not loaded yet, the values show "-" until it arrives.
- The reference levels move whenever today's high or low changes.
- An average range describes past days. Price can travel much more or much less than the ADR, especially on news days.
The indicator shows statistics and reference levels only. It does not trade or give signals.
