Candlestick Signal Alerts MT4 is a free indicator for MetaTrader 4 that marks 13 classic candlestick patterns on the chart. Each gets an arrow and a short label on the bar that completes it, and the indicator can alert you when one appears. It is for traders who read candles and want the patterns found for them.

It works on closed bars only. A mark appears when its bar has closed and never moves or disappears. It places no orders.

MetaTrader 4 edition: the same calculation and the same arrows as the MetaTrader 5 version. Only the arrow distance is set as a fraction of ATR, because MetaTrader 4 cannot shift arrows by pixels.

Quick start

Attach the indicator to any chart and timeframe. Marks appear on the last 2000 closed bars.
In the inputs, switch pattern groups on or off. All seven are on by default.
For alerts, keep the pop-up on (default) or switch on sound, push notification or e-mail.
Point at a label to see the full pattern name.

Standalone: everything is built in. You do not need to buy or install any other product named on this page.

Hammer and Hanging Man.
Inverted Hammer and Shooting Star.
Doji.
Morning Star and Evening Star.
Bullish and Bearish Harami.
Piercing Line and Dark Cloud Cover.

How they are recognised

Body, wicks and range are compared with each other. They are also compared with the average body and range of the 10 bars before, so the rules adapt to any symbol and timeframe.
Some patterns depend on what came before: a hammer after a decline, a hanging man after a rise, engulfing, harami, stars, piercing and dark cloud. They use the trend before them: the close against its 20-period EMA.
A doji needs a body of at most 5% of its range, a range of at least half the average range and a trend before it. Tiny quiet bars are not counted.
The labels name the pattern (ENG, HAM, STAR, DOJI, MSTAR, HAR, PIER, DCC...). The tooltip gives the full name.

Good to know

A candlestick pattern describes one to three bars. On its own it is not a reason to trade. Many traders use it as one piece of context.
