Obsidian Gold Sell is a rule-based Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5, designed for sell-side trading on XAUUSD. It combines market structure, trend filters and volatility-based position management to evaluate short entries on the M5 timeframe.
The strategy opens sell positions only. It evaluates bearish continuation setups, breaks of previous swing levels, breakout retests and reversal reactions around resistance zones.
Trading approach
The Expert Advisor analyses recent swing highs and lows alongside exponential moving averages, momentum and trend-strength indicators. M15 trend confirmation supports selected entry paths, while qualifying structure breaks and reversal setups can take priority over slower trend filters.
Standard entries are evaluated on a new bar by default. A separate intrabar entry path can respond to qualifying bearish impulses before the current candle closes.
Entry filters
• Swing-zone checks assess entry location relative to recent price structure.
• Anti-chase filters aim to restrict entries after an extended move.
• Re-entry controls apply cooldown and pullback conditions.
• Spread, session and volatility filters restrict trading under selected conditions.
The number of trades depends on market conditions and settings. Trading every day is not guaranteed.
Position management
Initial stop-loss and take-profit levels are based on the Average True Range and submitted with the opening order. Default distances are 2.4 times the Average True Range for the stop-loss and 2.8 times for the take-profit.
Virtual break-even, adaptive trailing and tighter trailing near the take-profit level manage exits internally. These functions close positions at market when triggered; they do not continuously move the broker-side stop-loss.
Dynamic invalidation can also request an earlier exit when closed-bar conditions indicate that a setup has weakened.
Risk and daily controls
Automatic position sizing targets 0.35% of account balance per trade before trading costs, subject to broker volume constraints. Fixed-lot sizing is also available. Minimum lot requirements can cause actual exposure to exceed the calculated target.
By default, a recorded losing exit stops further entries for the remainder of the broker day. Additional controls include an account-equity-based daily loss entry filter, a cooldown after qualifying winning trades and an entry lock following a configured decline from tracked realised daily profit.
These controls restrict new entries; they do not guarantee a maximum loss or a minimum retained profit.
Setup and operation
• Platform: MetaTrader 5.
• Intended instrument: XAUUSD. Set InpSymbol to your broker’s exact symbol name.
• Default trading timeframe: M5.
• Default confirmation timeframe: M15.
• Default entry session: 08:00–19:00, broker server time.
Keep the terminal connected and automated trading enabled. Continuous operation, such as on a suitable virtual private server, is required for virtual exit management. Restarting or reinitialising the Expert Advisor resets its virtual trailing state and some daily tracking values. Existing broker-side stop-loss and take-profit orders remain in place.
Test the product in the Strategy Tester and on a demo account using your broker’s conditions before live use. Results depend on spreads, commissions, execution, slippage and settings.
Trading involves risk of loss. Stop orders and virtual exits do not guarantee execution at their trigger prices. Historical results do not guarantee future performance.
