VPS not working at all - Please help me - page 2

Bryan #: Is this an intentional limitation of the VPS offered by MQL5? If this is the case, I will most certainly be looking elsewhere because I don't only run EAs but I also trade manually. I don't see why this VPS could not extend its coverage to manual trading as would any other VPS service with servers located near the client's broker.

It is a limitation of ALL VPS, including 3rd party VPS. Even if you use a 3rd party VPS via a remote desktop connection, you would then need to sum the total latency (from your PC to the VPS, and then from the VPS to the broker), which will only make it even worse latency than from your computer directly to the broker.

Bryan #: Don't worry. I've already found a solution. Thanks!

No, you have found what you "think" is a solution.

You are ignoring the experience and knowledge of other traders (and of network specialists).

You will soon find out after gaining some experience of your own that by using a VPS you will worsening the situation.

If you want to improve the latency for Manual trading you need to:

  1. Select an ISP that:
    1.  ... offers the most advantages network route to the trade server you want to use.
    2. ... offers low latency in general with good speeds for both the upstream and downstream
  2. Select the best trade server of the broker for the above conditions, or alternatively select a broker that offers trade servers that fit the above conditions.
A VPS is not the solution. A VPN (not VPS) on the other hand, may help if the VPN network route has lower latency than the current network route provided by the ISP.

I get your point. However, if the total latency, (from my PC to the VPS, and then from the VPS to the broker), is lower than my my latency from my computer directly to the broker I would actually see improvement in execution for manual trades. Of course, for this improvement to be remotely possible, my computer to broker latency must be worse than my computer to VPS latency.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be looking into the ISP/VPN solutions.

After all of this experimenting I realize that the main culprit of the slow execution is due to something entirely different.

I believe that the broker's demo servers are purposefully slow. I have tested their execution both with manual trading and an EA and I can see in the journal that all executions take longer than 1000ms. This is the case whether I'm using a direct computer to broker solution or a VPS provider that shows 2ms in the lower right corner. There was slight improvement with the VPS but the issue lies on the broker's server which perhaps intentionally is set up this way for their demo accounts.

Yes, one such example is ICMarkets where their demo accounts are very slow, both in execution and especially in downloading historical data. But they are not the only ones, but they are the slowest one I have ever experienced so far.

Why bottom right corner?
You connect MT4 to your trading account (the trading account which you used to subscrive to VPS according to this link), and you will see VPS below the account.
