SMARTGOLDHYBRID – TREND-BASED CROSS AND DCA SYSTEM FOR METATRADER 5
SmartGoldHybrid is an Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5 that combines two trend-based trading strategies within one system:
• Cross: a low-frequency, long-term trend-following strategy.
• Smart DCA: one-directional DCA following the prevailing trend and reversal-candle signals.
• Hybrid: coordinated operation of the Cross and Smart DCA strategies.
The EA is designed to balance profit potential, drawdown and ease of operation. Hybrid is the recommended default mode for most users.
WHAT MAKES SMARTGOLDHYBRID DIFFERENT?
SmartGoldHybrid does not continuously run DCA in both directions, and it does not add positions based solely on a fixed price distance like many conventional DCA systems.
Smart DCA first determines the primary trading direction according to the prevailing trend. The EA then builds a DCA sequence only in that direction and uses reversal-candle signals to evaluate when another position may be added.
The objectives of this design are:
• To reduce DCA activity against the primary trend.
• To avoid building opposing BUY and SELL baskets simultaneously.
• To reduce unnecessary additional entries.
• To combine price distance with candle context.
• To focus on the recovery potential of a trend-aligned trading sequence.
THREE OPERATING MODES

HYBRID – RECOMMENDED DEFAULT MODE
Hybrid coordinates Cross and Smart DCA within one EA.
The coordination mechanism controls new exposure and allocates risk between the two strategies. When one strategy has priority, the other follows the coordination rules instead of freely increasing exposure at the same time.
The purpose of Hybrid is not to maximize the individual profit of either strategy. Its objective is to provide a more balanced configuration when Cross and DCA operate within the same account.
Hybrid is the recommended mode for the commercial version.

CROSS ONLY – LONG-TERM TREND STRATEGY
Cross is a long-term trend-following strategy with a low trading frequency.
A Cross position may remain open for an extended period while waiting for the trend to develop or for an exit condition to occur. Because the strategy trades infrequently, its performance is not generated by a continuous series of small trades.
When the market develops a major sustained trend, a successful Cross trade can make a significant contribution to the overall growth of the system. However, Cross may also remain inactive for long periods and will not always find a trading opportunity.
During the published testing period, Cross-only executed only 10 trades. Because this is a small sample, its Profit Factor and historical profit should be interpreted carefully. Strong results from a small number of trades do not guarantee that similar performance will occur in the future.

DCA ONLY – ONE-DIRECTIONAL TREND-BASED DCA
DCA-only activates only the Smart DCA system.
Unlike conventional DCA strategies, this system is not designed to continuously add positions in both directions. The EA determines a trading direction according to the prevailing trend and builds a DCA sequence in only one direction at a time.
Additional DCA positions are evaluated using price-distance conditions together with reversal-candle signals. Therefore, the timing and number of entries may differ significantly from an EA that uses only a fixed price grid.
DCA-only produces a much higher number of trades than Cross and manages positions as separate trading cycles. Under prolonged adverse market conditions, a DCA sequence may still generate significant floating drawdown.
XAUUSD/GOLD IS RECOMMENDED
SmartGoldHybrid was developed and calibrated primarily for XAUUSD/Gold.
The EA does not impose a hard symbol lock. When it is attached to a chart other than Gold, it displays the following warning:
“XAUUSD/Gold is recommended”
The EA may continue operating after this warning. However, the ability to run on another instrument does not mean that the Gold configuration is suitable for that instrument.
Users must perform their own testing and parameter adjustment before using the EA on forex pairs, indices, cryptocurrencies or other markets.
XAUUSD OR XAUUSDC RECOMMENDATION BASED ON CAPITAL SIZE
• For trading capital of 35,000 USD or more: standard XAUUSD is the primary reference configuration.
• For trading capital below 35,000 USD: consider using XAUUSDc or Gold Cent if this instrument is provided by your broker.
XAUUSDc may allow smaller position sizing and more flexible risk allocation. This can be particularly important for a system that uses DCA, because the minimum lot and contract size of standard XAUUSD may create excessive proportional risk for a small account.
Symbol names, contract sizes, tick values and account balance units may differ between brokers. For example, a Cent account may display its balance in USC rather than USD.
Users must verify the following specifications:
• Contract Size.
• Tick Size and Tick Value.
• Minimum Volume.
• Volume Step.
• Margin Requirements.
• Account Balance Unit.
• Broker Trading Conditions.
Do not assume that 35,000 USC is equal to 35,000 USD. Always verify the account-unit conversion before setting Trading Capital.
The published tests used an initial deposit of 35,000 USD on standard XAUUSD. These results cannot be applied directly to XAUUSDc or a Cent account without conducting a separate test using the exact contract specifications of the broker.
AUTOMATIC RISK MANAGEMENT
SmartGoldHybrid uses two primary parameters to determine trading volume:
• Trading Capital: the amount of capital used as the calculation basis.
• Target Drawdown: the target drawdown used by the lot-allocation model.
Target Drawdown is a calculation objective based on the model and historical test data. It is not a guaranteed maximum drawdown limit in live trading.
Actual drawdown may be higher because of:
• Differences in broker data.
• Wider spreads.
• Slippage or requotes.
• Price gaps.
• Low liquidity.
• Market closure.
• Network or VPS interruptions.
• Changes in contract size or broker trading conditions.
WARNING WHEN BALANCE IS LOWER THAN TRADING CAPITAL
The EA is allowed to continue operating when the account Balance is lower than the configured Trading Capital, but it displays a warning.
In this situation, the actual risk as a percentage of the account balance may be higher than intended.
When using a smaller account, users should:
• Consider XAUUSDc or Gold Cent.
• Set Trading Capital according to the actual allocated capital.
• Verify the calculated trading volume.
• Run the Strategy Tester using the exact broker symbol.
• Begin with a Demo account or a small amount of risk capital.
OPTIONAL DRAWDOWN PROTECTION
SOFT DRAWDOWN PROTECTION
When drawdown reaches the configured protection threshold, the EA stops creating new Cross or DCA exposure. Existing positions continue to be managed according to the system logic.
HARD DRAWDOWN GUARD
When the configured condition is reached, the EA attempts to close the positions under its management.
Position closure remains dependent on market status and broker execution. If the market is closed or trading requests are rejected, the EA cannot guarantee that positions will be closed immediately at the specified threshold.
RISK REBALANCING IN THE COMMERCIAL VERSION
During the final preparation of the commercial version, the Cross position size was reduced compared with the previous profit-oriented configuration.
This adjustment reduced part of the historical profit potential but brought the Maximum Equity Drawdown of Cross closer to the drawdown levels of DCA and Hybrid:
• Cross-only: 19.22%.
• DCA-only: 19.16%.
• Hybrid zero latency: 18.85%.
• Hybrid random delay: 18.84%.
This is an intentional trade-off.
The commercial version was not designed to maximize the profit of a single backtest. The priority is to maintain a more balanced risk allocation between Cross and DCA while preserving the ability of Cross to make a significant contribution when it captures a sustained long-term trend.
UPDATED STRATEGY TESTER RESULTS
Reference test conditions:
• Instrument: XAUUSD/Gold with the broker’s symbol suffix.
• Timeframe: M10.
• Test period: 2025.01.01 to 2026.08.29.
• Initial deposit: 35,000 USD.
• Model: Every tick based on real ticks.
• History Quality: 100%.
• Target Drawdown: 20%.
• Optional drawdown protections were disabled to measure the original strategy behavior.
HYBRID – ZERO LATENCY
• Total Net Profit: 151,697.99 USD.
• Maximum Equity Drawdown: 18.85%.
• Profit Factor: 3.30.
• Recovery Factor: 11.24.
• Total Trades: 10,451.
• History Quality: 100%.
HYBRID – RANDOM DELAY
• Total Net Profit: 151,908.60 USD.
• Maximum Equity Drawdown: 18.84%.
• Profit Factor: 3.32.
• Recovery Factor: 10.95.
• Total Trades: 10,170.
• History Quality: 100%.
CROSS ONLY
• Total Net Profit: 126,641.95 USD.
• Maximum Equity Drawdown: 19.22%.
• Profit Factor: 11.66.
• Recovery Factor: 8.88.

DCA ONLY
• Total Net Profit: 35,518.02 USD.

The slightly higher Random Delay result does not mean that execution delay improves profitability. These two tests only show that the system produced relatively similar results under the tested historical conditions.

• Backtest the EA using the broker’s exact symbol and trading conditions.

IMPORTANT RISK NOTICE
SmartGoldHybrid uses DCA/Grid mechanisms and may maintain multiple positions simultaneously. Under prolonged adverse market conditions, floating drawdown may become significant and the account may experience substantial losses.
One-directional, trend-based DCA and reversal-candle signals cannot eliminate the risks associated with DCA.
Cross may produce significant results when it captures a sustained trend, but it may also remain inactive for long periods or generate losing trades when market direction changes.
No Expert Advisor can guarantee profit or guarantee an absolute drawdown limit.
