GGT Breakout Gold — one breakout rule for XAUUSD, tested before release
What it does
- Once a day (01:00 server time) it places a BUY STOP just under the 20-day high and a SELL STOP just above the 20-day low of gold.
- Stop-loss 0.3 x ATR(14, D1), take-profit 1.5 x ATR. Every order is sent with its stop-loss and take-profit.
- After +0.5R the stop trails the last four M15 bars; at +1R it moves to break-even. Unfilled orders are moved to the new levels the next day (adjusted, not deleted and re-placed).
- Friday, pre-holiday and US Non-Farm-Payrolls protection: pending orders are cancelled and positions closed before these risk windows.
- No grid, no martingale, no averaging, no recovery. One position per side.
- Optional Multi-channel mode (off by default): the same rule also runs on the 10-day and 55-day channels as two extra, independent order sets (magic+1, magic+2), with the risk split 1/3 per set.
- No DLL, no internet, nothing to download.
Read this before you look at any number
- The rule was designed and selected with gold data from 2015 up to September 2026, so all results below are in-sample. They show how the EA behaves; they do not promise profit.
- Breakouts pay in trending years. In a statistical test on 2014-2020 alone the edge was not significant; most of the profit comes from trending periods (2020, 2023, 2025).
- Tested with "Every tick based on real ticks" on a low-cost gold feed (about 0.58 bp round-trip cost). Wider spreads will do worse — test the free demo on your broker before buying.
Strategy Tester results (backtest, not live trading), 2015-01 to 2026-09 (default settings, every tick based on real ticks, 1:500)
- Cent account, $600 start, risk 1%: +264%, max equity drawdown 8.2%, profit factor 1.62, 615 trades, 56% winners. (Drawdowns in this list are the Strategy Tester report’s equity drawdown; the lower panel of the first screenshot shows the balance drawdown, which is smaller.)
- Standard account, $1,500 start, risk 2%: +1,003%, max equity drawdown 15.4%, profit factor 1.61.
- About 50 trades a year.
- Multi-channel option, same period and settings as the cent-account test: +262%, max equity drawdown 7.6%, profit factor 1.58, 1,903 trades (about 3x more trades; same in-sample data, so treat it as behaviour, not proof).
- GMT+0 broker history (Exness, 2021-01 to 2026-09, 1-minute OHLC, $1,000, risk 2%, Fixed GMT+0): +220%, profit factor 1.63, max equity drawdown 13.1%, 338 trades.

One losing year in eleven full years. Worst equity drawdown inside a single year (standard, risk 2%): 14%. Expect losing months and losing streaks.
Account size — important for small accounts
At today's gold price one minimum lot (0.01) risks about $30 at the stop.
- $600 - $1,000: use a cent account (risk 1%).
- Standard account $1,000 - $3,000: risk 2% (some trades are skipped when 0.01 lot would risk too much).
- Standard account from about $3,000: risk 1%.
The EA skips a trade rather than over-risk (input "Skip a trade if the minimum lot would risk more than 1.5x the intended risk").
Small accounts: the optional input "Always trade minimum lot" trades 0.01 lot even when that risks more than your % setting, and "Equity stop %" closes everything and pauses until the next day if equity falls that % below its peak. With Multi-channel ON each of the 3 sets trades at least 0.01 lot, so the risk on a small account can be up to 3x higher. The chart shows the real money at risk per order and per side.
Optional Drawdown HALT (off by default): if this EA’s own results fall the set % of the account below their best level, it removes its pending orders, closes its positions and stops. It stays stopped, also after restarts and VPS migrations, until you move “HALT counts from” past the halt. Other EAs, deposits and withdrawals do not trigger it.
Requirements
- Symbol: XAUUSD (any suffix). Attach to one chart, any timeframe.
- Hedging account recommended, 1:100 leverage or higher.
- Low-spread (raw/ECN) account and a VPS running 24/5.
- Any broker server time. The strategy runs on New York close time (GMT+2/+3, most brokers); input "Broker server time" = Auto converts GMT+0 and other servers on a live account. In the Strategy Tester with a GMT+0 history (e.g. Exness) choose "Fixed GMT offset" = 0.
