Why a dedicated crypto short engine?

Cryptocurrencies spend long stretches in directional regimes and then reverse violently. Most generic trend EAs trade both sides with the same logic and get chopped when a crypto downtrend accelerates. Crypto H4 Short Trend Master does one job: it hunts short-side momentum on the H4 timeframe, only when the higher-timeframe structure confirms a downtrend. It never buys dips, never fades the move, and never holds a short against the flow. Every position carries a volatility-normalized stop, a fixed fractional reward target, and a breakeven plus trailing engine that locks in gains once the market moves in your favor.

How it works

  • H4 trend gate: price must trade below the H4 EMA structure before any short is considered. No trend, no trade.
  • Range breakdown entry: the EA measures a consolidation range and enters short only on a confirmed downward break with a buffer, so premature entries inside chop are skipped.
  • RSI pressure filter: entries require RSI below 62, confirming real selling pressure rather than an exhausted spike.
  • Lookback and range quality guards: minimum lookback bars, maximum range multiple, and minimum range-to-ATR ratio keep entries in tradeable volatility, not dead or explosive markets.
  • ATR stop loss: each stop scales with current ATR (2.6x multiplier, bounded between 300 and 50000 points), so risk adapts to quiet and wild regimes alike.
  • Fixed 1.2R take profit: winners exit at a disciplined reward multiple before reversals eat them.
  • Breakeven at 1.2 ATR plus ATR trailing at 1.5x with a 50-point step: once a trade works, the stop ratchets up and never gives back the full gain.
  • Session and risk circuit-breakers: maximum 2 trades per day, 3 consecutive-loss halt, 1.5 percent daily loss halt, and a 3000-point spread filter. Trading pauses automatically when conditions turn hostile.
  • Broker safety guards (v1.02): maximum lot capped at 2.0 per SOP, broker volume-limit clamp, hard margin cap that skips the trade instead of forcing size, trade-permission and rollover blackout checks, and stop/freeze/spread-aware trailing floors.

  • Win Rate: 35.55 percent over the full 2021 to 2026 window on ETHUSDm H4 with 100 percent history quality and 12228 bars. Recovery Factor 2.17. Out-of-sample 2024 to 2026 delivered profit factor 1.56 on 120 trades for +648.82 USD with a 41.67 percent win rate, while the 2024 smoke year printed profit factor 2.09 on 48 trades. Be aware the in-sample 2021 to 2023 stretch was weak at profit factor 1.06 on 136 trades for +82.21 USD, which is exactly why the out-of-sample confirmation matters: the edge shows up on unseen data, not on fitted history.

    • Who it suits

    Trend-following traders who want crypto short exposure without watching charts all day. The EA runs on the H4 chart, averages about four trades a month, and risks a fixed 0.30 percent of equity per position with compounding enabled. It fits accounts from 100 USD upward on Exness-style cent or standard crypto symbols. If you prefer scalping or grid averaging, this is not your product: it takes few, selective, fully collateralized directional shorts with hard stops on every ticket.

    Symbols and timeframe

    Verified on ETHUSDm H4 with Model=0 every-tick real data. BTCUSD shares the same market structure and the logic is symbol-agnostic, but the published verification covers ETH only, so treat BTC as a bonus market and forward-test it on demo first. Higher-timeframe D1 filter is available as an option but ships off by default, matching the verified configuration.

    Presets

    Four production presets ship in the package, all capped at maximum lot 2.0: Default mirrors the verified settings, Conservative trims risk for small accounts, Balanced is the default risk profile for steady compounding, and Aggressive raises intraday frequency caps while keeping the same hard risk rails. Load any preset through the Inputs dialog Load button, attach to one H4 chart per symbol, and enable AutoTrading.

    Installation

    Install MetaTrader 5 from your broker. Copy Crypto_H4_Short_Trend_Master_EA_v1.ex5 into the MQL5 Experts folder. Restart the terminal or refresh the Navigator. Drag the EA onto an ETHUSDm H4 chart. Load a preset from the package presets folder. Confirm the magic number 555101 does not collide with other EAs on the account. Enable AutoTrading and VPS hosting is recommended for uninterrupted H4 bar closes.
