SOLID GOLD EA FOR METATRADER 5
Hey there! I'm Bjorn, and I created SOLID GOLD EA, a multi-strategy automated trading system developed specifically for Gold (XAUUSD).
I started trading about 18 years ago, and SOLID GOLD EA was built by taking concepts from my manual trading and turning them into automated MT5 strategies that can identify setups, calculate risk, enter trades and manage positions automatically.
HOW SOLID GOLD EA TRADES
SOLID GOLD EA does not rely on one single setup and is designed to trade whether price is going up or down.
The idea is that Gold behaves differently depending on market conditions, so instead of trying to make one strategy work all the time, SOLID GOLD EA uses very different approaches to find opportunities.
Every strategy has its own entry conditions, stop-loss and take-profit.
There is no Martingale or grid strategy.
Just good old regular trading strategies that I have automated in this MT5 EA.
A TEAM OF TRADERS
SOLID GOLD EA is designed more like a team of traders, with different strategies for different market conditions.
One strategy may perform well during a particular market environment while another may have very few opportunities. By combining different strategies, the goal is to be less dependent on one single setup.
When Gold starts trending strongly up or down, some of the strategies are designed to take advantage of these larger market moves.
RISK/REWARD PHILOSOPHY
SOLID GOLD EA is based on how I trade myself. Of course I would love a high win rate, but that is difficult to achieve consistently in trading. I'm okay with taking more losses because the winning trades are designed to be larger than the losing trades.
That’s the idea behind using a healthy risk-to-reward ratio. You don't need to win every trade.
This also means you should probably expect periods where the account is in drawdown.
This is normal.
It's just trading, but it’s one of the hardest things in the world to accept or to stomach when it's happening your account.
SIMPLE RISK SETTINGS
I have purposely kept the settings in the Inputs section as simple as possible.
You can risk a percentage of your account per trade or use a fixed dollar amount per trade.
You can also choose between compounding and no compounding.
With compounding, as the account grows, the dollar amount risked per trade also grows. This means the position sizes can get larger as the account grows.
Of course, this also works in the other direction. When the account balance decreases, the dollar amount risked per trade decreases as well.
Please see the screenshots for examples.
The higher the risk percentage you use, especially with compounding, the larger the potential drawdown can become.
DRAWDOWNS
Depending on when you start SOLID GOLD EA, it could start during a profitable period or it could go straight into a drawdown. That's why it's important to understand the risk before starting SOLID GOLD EA.
But hopefully you can start SOLID GOLD EA right at the end of a drawdown and ride the recovery!
More fun that way!
TEST IT ON YOUR BROKER
I have tested SOLID GOLD EA with many different brokers. Because SOLID GOLD EA trades on higher timeframes, it is less sensitive to broker differences than many lower-timeframe EAs. Results can still vary, so I always recommend testing it with your own broker on a demo account before going live.
I test using both 1-minute OHLC and real ticks. 1-minute OHLC is much faster for backtesting. In my testing, real-tick results generally show around 8–10% lower net profit than 1-minute OHLC, with similar drawdown.
As a general rule, I deduct around 10% from my OHLC backtest results when comparing them with real-tick results.
IMPORTANT
Backtests and past results do not guarantee future results.
Trading involves risk, and you can lose some or all of the money in your account. The higher the risk setting you choose, the larger the potential drawdowns can become.
Please only use a risk level you are comfortable with.
SOLID GOLD EA — QUICK START GUIDE
-
Minimum Balance: Start with a minimum of $1,000. This helps the EA operate with more appropriate position sizing.
-
Symbol: Attach SOLID GOLD EA only to Gold (XAUUSD).
-
Timeframe: You can attach SOLID GOLD EA to any chart timeframe. The EA uses its own internal timeframes automatically.
-
Risk Setting: Choose your target risk per trade. For example, you can start by backtesting 1–2% risk with compounding and adjust it based on your own risk tolerance and backtesting with your broker.
-
Target Risk vs. Actual Risk: The percentage you select is the target risk per trade. SOLID GOLD EA calculates position size based on the stop-loss distance for each strategy. On smaller accounts, the required lot size may sometimes be below your broker's minimum lot size. When this happens, SOLID GOLD EA uses the broker's minimum lot size rather than skipping the trade.
This is very important to understand: On a $1,000 account, for example, some trades may risk a higher percentage than the target risk you selected, especially when a strategy requires a wider stop-loss.
-
Leverage: Higher leverage provides more available margin. If your broker offers 1:1000 leverage, this can provide greater margin flexibility when multiple strategies have positions open at the same time.
-
No Optimization Needed: SOLID GOLD EA is designed to run with the strategy settings already built into the EA. You do not need to optimize or modify the individual strategies.
-
Demo First: Always run SOLID GOLD EA on a demo account with your broker before going live. This lets you confirm that the EA is working correctly and see how your broker's trading conditions affect the results.
