SWITCHBACK MT5 is an Expert Advisor developed for automated directional trading with stop-loss reversal on MetaTrader 5.
The EA holds one position at a time. When that position is closed by its stop loss, the EA does not re-enter in the same direction. It turns around and opens the opposite side. Every entry carries a fixed stop loss and take profit from the moment it is sent, and an optional trailing stop follows price once the trade moves far enough in profit.
The system combines a selectable entry trigger, stop-loss reversal, an optional drawdown-based position sizing ladder and a full set of execution filters. It is built around a single clear rule set rather than a large stack of indicators.

Basket recovery, which closes the oldest losing position together with the profitable ones once their combined result is positive, is available on hedging accounts. On netting accounts the platform allows only one position per symbol, so this module stays idle and the EA logs a notice at startup.
RECOMMENDED TRADING CONDITIONS
- Switchback MT5 places market orders with fixed stops, so spread and execution quality directly affect the result of every trade. A Raw Spread or Raw ECN account is recommended.
- Stop loss and take profit are expressed in points, not pips. One point is the smallest price change of the symbol. On a 2-digit gold quote, 1000 points equals a 10.00 USD move. On a 5-digit currency quote, 1000 points equals 100 pips. The default values are sized for gold and must be adjusted before running the EA on any other instrument, otherwise the levels will sit so far from price that they are never reached.
- Run a backtest using the Every tick based on real ticks model before increasing volume. Results differ between brokers because of spread, commission, symbol specification, execution speed, liquidity and slippage.

For stable operation, MetaTrader 5 and Algo Trading must stay active. A VPS close to the broker's trading server is recommended.
POSITION SIZING
- Two sizing modes are available.
- With balance scaling enabled, the base lot grows one step for every full block of balance. With the default settings, every 20 000 USD of balance adds 0.01 lot to the base position size.
- With balance scaling disabled, the base lot is used exactly as entered.
Every calculated volume is checked against the symbol's minimum, maximum and volume step, against the symbol's total volume limit, and against available free margin before the order is sent.
RISK MANAGEMENT
Switchback MT5 includes an optional lot progression that is driven by account drawdown, not by the number of consecutive losses. The EA tracks the highest balance the account has reached and measures current equity against it. Each full block of drawdown moves the position size one step up the ladder.
This feature is switched off by default. With the default settings the EA trades a flat lot regardless of drawdown.
With progression enabled at the default multiplier of 2.0 and a drawdown step of 100 USD, the ladder develops as follows on XAUUSD, where the default 1000-point stop loss costs approximately 10 USD per 0.01 lot:
- Drawdown 0 USD: 0.01 lot
- Drawdown 100 USD: 0.02 lot
- Drawdown 200 USD: 0.04 lot
- Drawdown 300 USD: 0.08 lot
- Drawdown 400 USD: 0.16 lot
- Drawdown 500 USD: 0.32 lot
- Drawdown 600 USD: 0.64 lot
- Drawdown 700 USD: 1.00 lot, capped by the maximum lot setting
Two limits govern this ladder and both must be set to values your balance can survive:
- Maximum lot caps the position size no matter how deep the drawdown becomes. The default is 1.00 lot.
- Maximum drawdown level caps how many steps the ladder can climb. The default of 100 is far higher than any realistic account can support and exists only as an upper bound. Set it to a value that matches your deposit.
Additional protective controls:
- Set the progression switch to false, or the multiplier to 1.0, for flat position sizing.
- The floating loss cut-off closes everything once the open loss reaches a chosen percentage of balance.
- The floating profit target closes everything once the open profit reaches a chosen amount.
- The consecutive-loss limit stops new entries after a set number of losing trades in a row.
- The default take profit is twice the default stop loss, so the strategy does not depend on an unusually high win rate.
New users should start on a demo account, or at 0.01 lot with progression disabled, until the trading frequency and position management behaviour are understood.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- The EA does not guarantee profits. Historical tests and past results do not guarantee future performance.
- Backtest results may differ from live trading because of spread, commission, latency, slippage, liquidity and broker execution.
- Enabling the drawdown lot progression increases exposure while the account is losing. A sustained drawdown can consume a large part of an account, and in the worst case all of it. Trade only with money you can afford to lose.
- Always test the EA under your own broker conditions before increasing lot size or risk.
