Simple Gold EA – Part B
Ever sit on the toilet and suddenly think:
“Wait... I’ve got another trading idea.”
Well... apparently one toilet idea wasn’t enough.:-)
After building Simple Gold EA – Part A, I kept testing, experimenting and playing around with different ideas.
And somehow, Part B was born.
Again, the idea started simple.
I tested it, changed a few things, threw away what didn’t work, tested it again... and eventually turned it into another Expert Advisor for Gold.
Is Part B the holy grail?
Of course not.
If I ever find the holy grail, I’ll probably stop making MQL5 products and buy a much nicer toilet!
The philosophy behind Part B is still simple:
Find a trading idea, turn it into rules, and let the EA execute those rules.
No 27 indicators.
No AI supercomputer predicting Gold prices from a secret bunker.
No magical algorithm that supposedly knows where XAUUSD will be tomorrow.
And definitely no:
“99.9% guaranteed profit.”
Just another trading idea turned into code and tested on historical Gold data.
Important: Part B is a Grid EA
Unlike Part A, Part B uses a grid-based trading approach.
This means the EA can open multiple positions in the same direction instead of relying on only one single entry.
The grid is used as part of the trade and basket management. When market conditions move against the initial position, the EA can add further positions according to its predefined rules.
The positions are then managed together as a basket.
Because this is a Grid EA, it is important to understand that drawdown can increase when Gold makes a strong move against an open basket.
Grid trading involves risk. Please choose your lot size carefully and test the EA with your broker before using it on a live account.
What is different about Part B?
Part B uses a completely different trading approach from Part A.
It looks for its own market conditions, decides when a basket can begin and then manages the positions according to its internal grid logic.
I’m deliberately not going to explain every single detail of the strategy here.
Where would be the fun in that?
The EA includes adjustable settings for things such as lot size, grid behaviour, basket management, filters and other parameters.
This gives you plenty of room to experiment with your own configurations.
Optimized settings
I spent quite some time testing different parameter combinations in the MT5 Strategy Tester.
You’ll find the SET file with my optimized settings attached in settings, so you can use it as a starting point for your own backtests.
You don’t have to use my settings.
Actually, I encourage you to experiment.
Change things.
Optimize it.
Test different periods.
Maybe you’ll find a combination that works better than mine.
A note about backtests
A backtest is exactly what the name says:
A test of the past.
It is not a guarantee of what will happen tomorrow.
This is especially important with a Grid EA.
A strategy can perform very well for a long period and then experience a significantly larger drawdown when the market moves strongly in one direction.
Different brokers, spreads, commissions, execution, historical data and market conditions can also produce different results.
So please don’t look at a nice equity curve and immediately start planning which Lamborghini you’re going to buy.
Test the EA yourself.
Run it on your broker.
Start with sensible lot sizes.
Try different settings.
And most importantly, understand the risks of grid trading before using real money.
That’s exactly what I did.
I had another random trading idea...
I coded it...
I tested it...
And apparently it was interesting enough to become:

I’ll be creating more Toilet EAs in the future.
