I have sell- and buy positions open in one pair and hedged them manual to lock in the loss.
How can the EA deal with it? In the settings I can choose between Recovery Buy and Recovery Sell.

You should have used the ea to cover the positions. anger recovering but you are in a bad position. use mode 2. next time use 3 or 4 for ea to block your orders

The only thing I would like to know is: I set "Recovery BUY" when I want to recover Buy position that goes wrong way ? Correct ?

Dangerous martingale system. I would not recommend this one as a life saver for account with a large drawdown. It's a pure gambling.
I think you have not understood what this system is, it is a loss recovery system, it is not a trading system, most of the advanced robots that I programmed at that time had integrated recovery modules, this is the extraction of the module, which I did this because many clients asked me for this isolated module to use as a complement to their systems. Keep in mind that not all multi-order systems are martingale. All the best
