Subject: MT4 Bug — OnTimer() Does Not Trigger at All on Some Charts After the Latest Update 1491
Hello,
After the latest MetaTrader 4 update, I discovered a problem with timer operation in MQL4 indicators.
I use an indicator that works with a timer:
EventSetTimer(1);
After the update, the OnTimer() function does not trigger at all on some charts.
To rule out any influence from my indicator, I tested this using a completely minimal test indicator containing no additional logic.
(The timer is started, the timer start result is written to the log, and when the timer fires, a comment is displayed on the chart, a message is written to the log, and the timer is removed.)
The same test indicator was simultaneously installed on six charts of the same instrument, but with different timeframes.
During initialization, the indicator calls EventSetTimer(1) and writes the result to the log.
On all six charts, the initialization result in the log shows:
Timer=true Error=0
Therefore, EventSetTimer(1) reports that the timer was successfully set on every chart.
After that, the indicator waits for OnTimer() to be called.
When OnTimer() is triggered, it:
-
displays TIMER FIRED! on the chart;
-
writes a TIMER FIRED message to the log;
-
calls EventKillTimer() .
On some charts, OnTimer() works normally.
However, on some charts, OnTimer() is not called at all — neither after one second nor later. Therefore, on these charts, both the TIMER FIRED log message and the TIMER FIRED! chart comment are absent.
At the same time, the successful timer initialization message ( Timer=true , Error=0 ) is present in the log for these same charts.
I also checked whether the problem depends on the chart, timeframe, or presence of ticks. The problem does not depend on the timeframe. It also occurs on BTC and ETH, where real ticks were being received at the time of testing.
Furthermore, after recompiling the test indicator, the set of problematic charts changes. For example, initially the timer fired on 5 out of 6 charts, and after recompilation it fired on 4 out of 6 charts, and not necessarily on the same charts.
Thus, the same minimal test indicator, with the timer configured in exactly the same way, receives the OnTimer() call on some charts, while on other charts OnTimer() is not called at all.
Please check whether this problem could be related to the latest MetaTrader 4 update and the mechanism responsible for processing/delivering timer events.
Thank you.
There are major issues with Release 1491. Please provide a fix ASAP. The indicators are no longer displaying. This is a major widespread issue affecting alot of users.

On Friday, October 2, 2026, an update to MetaTrader 4 will be released. The new version includes several important security enhancements, bug fixes, and changes designed to improve the platform's overall stability.
Improved management of Stop Loss and Take Profit levels for positions on the same instrument in FIFO mode:
- If a position with predefined SL/TP levels is already open for an instrument, and the New Order window is opened for the same instrument, the current Stop Loss and Take Profit values will be automatically populated in the corresponding fields.
- If the SL/TP levels are modified in the New Order window, the updated values will be applied to both the existing position and the newly opened position.
- If multiple positions for the same instrument are open without SL/TP levels and these levels are set for one of the positions, the values will be applied to all positions opened for that instrument.
- When a new position is opened using One Click Trading, the existing SL/TP values defined for that instrument will be applied automatically.
The update will be delivered through the Live Update system.
