A girl I knew, now a professional photographer, as a teenager scanned leaves and collected a photo herbarium.

I once needed a disc gif, a CD, couldn't find anything suitable, remembered the herbarium and scanned the disc. Then I also experimented with coins. The scanner is a handy macro camera.
