The author updates the statistics manually (or by an advisor, whatever), which in itself causes mistrust. When there is profit -- updated, when there is no profit -- no update either.
That is why almost all tractors except for the current one (F) are beautiful pictures before plummeting.

Just below the pretty picture are the start and stop dates for the previous tractors. These tractors are no longer going - they are already history.
The current tractorF project is in the works. This project is not time-bound.
This tractorF has a goal set in the first phase : from $5 to make $1000. Once goal #1 is achieved, goal #2 will be implemented.

Misrepresenting statistics for what else? It is mainly done to attract investors. Although, sometimes it happens for a reason - just to show off. What else can you think of?
