Then you ask him how can a line segment be drawn with only one point specified? And how would he do that using just one point and not having it repaint?

Those are lines there - not dots or arrows or histogram, so your coder should probably study that code to check what exactly and why is it done.

Isn't it easy to see if something repaints : all it takes a couple of snapshots. No need for looking at the code at all
