Nomad Reaper is a MetaTrader 5 expert advisor for gold (XAUUSD). It contains a portfolio of nine independent breakout strategies in three risk classes: three low, four medium and two high. Each strategy places pending stop orders and manages its own trades independently. In the default Auto mode, the number of strategies that trade follows your balance (see REQUIREMENTS).
The name comes from the Mongolian steppe, where the nomad stays mobile and patient. Nomad Reaper works the same way: its pending stop orders fill only when price actually moves through them, and when nothing triggers, it does not trade.
RISK CONTROLS
Every trade has a hard stop loss and take profit on the server. No grid, no martingale, no averaging. Open positions are managed with break-even and trailing logic.
Position size follows a maximum total drawdown target, 30% by default. It is a target, not a cap. An optional daily drawdown limit and a margin check are built in.
A news filter closes open trades and pending orders around NFP, pauses new entries for 30 minutes after CPI, and can optionally cover FOMC. In live trading it also reads the MQL5 economic calendar; built-in dates cover the strategy tester. No new entries are opened from 19 December until 7 January.
TESTED RESULTS
All figures below are MetaTrader 5 strategy tester backtests, not live trading.
Long history at a fixed lot, the conservative reference. HistData 1-minute data with a fixed synthetic spread, an independent second data source, June 2015 to November 2024, 1-minute OHLC modelling, 0.01 lot on each of the nine strategies: 7,289 trades, profit factor 1.58, net 5,963 USD, maximum closed-trade drawdown 531 USD. Every calendar year was profitable, from 183 USD in 2019 to 1,468 USD in 2024 (2015 starts in June and 2024 ends in November). This period lies before the data the parameters were finalised on.
Recent history, same fixed lot. IC Markets tick history, May 2023 to October 2026, 1-minute OHLC: 2,177 trades, profit factor 3.41, maximum closed-trade drawdown 388 USD. The part from December 2024 onward is in-sample.
Real ticks, money-managed, in-sample. IC Markets XAUUSD, every tick based on real ticks, 21 April to 10 October 2026 (about 5.6 months), 10,000 USD deposit, all default settings (at this balance Auto ran eight of the nine strategies): net profit 5,708 USD (57.1%), profit factor 3.35, 243 trades, 79.4% winners, maximum equity drawdown 8.82% (1,486 USD), largest loss 280 USD, at most 7 losses in a row. The parameters were finalised on data that includes this period, and 5.6 months is a snapshot, not a track record: do not project it over a full year.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Please read this before you buy.
The strategy parameters were finalised on December 2024 to October 2026 data, so results from that window are in-sample. The 2015-2024 test uses data from before that window, shows a clearly lower profit factor, and is the more conservative reference.
There is no live or forward-demo track record yet.
The 30% drawdown setting is a target, not a cap. A money-managed backtest from 10,000 USD on the 2015-2024 HistData period reached a 33.5% equity drawdown. OnlyUp is on by default: lots are sized from the highest balance and do not shrink during a drawdown, which can deepen it. Only trade money you can afford to see fall that far, or use the Conservative preset.
Losing streaks are normal. The 5.6-month real-tick run had up to seven consecutive losses; longer periods can bring longer streaks.
It is built for gold. It does not block other symbols, but it has no edge on currency pairs.
Past test results do not guarantee future performance. Test it on a demo account first.
SETTINGS AND PRESETS
Presets: Default (30% drawdown target), Conservative (10% target) and PropFirm (8% target, OnlyUp off, 4% daily drawdown limit, Friday close at 22:00 server time, random offsets).
Trade frequency: Auto (the number of strategies follows your balance), one of five frequency levels, or manual on/off per strategy.
Lot sizing: drawdown target, fixed lot, or maximum risk per strategy. OnlyUp (on by default) never reduces lots after losses.
Prop-firm options: configurable offsets for entries, stops, targets and trailing, optional random offsets, a daily drawdown limit, Friday close, and virtual trailing (the hard stop stays on the server). Check your prop firm's rules on expert advisors.
REQUIREMENTS
XAUUSD, any chart timeframe. Hedging account required: a netting account would net opposite strategies against each other. In live trading the broker GMT offset is detected automatically; in the strategy tester, set it manually (defaults GMT+2 in winter, GMT+3 in summer).
Recommended minimum deposit 1,534 USD with gold near 4,700 USD, where Auto runs three strategies within the 30% drawdown target. Auto steps from two strategies (from 841 USD) to three (1,534 USD), seven (4,342 USD) and eight (5,221 USD). Between 1,534 and 4,342 USD it runs three, and it never runs all nine. These amounts rise with the gold price. The Conservative preset (10%, also a target) needs about three times as much for the same number of strategies. Below 841 USD it still runs two strategies at the minimum lot, above the drawdown target.
