AS Range BreakOut

5

This simple range breakout trading strategy is a popular approach to profit from the movement of prices in financial markets. This strategy aims to identify a price range that a particular asset has been trading within and then wait for a breakout of that range to take place.

The basic idea behind this strategy is that once the price of an asset breaks out of its established range, it is likely to continue in that direction, leading to a profitable trade. 

Once the range has been identified, we wait for a clear breakout above or below the range to occur. We then enter into a trade in the direction of the breakout, placing a stop-loss order below the breakout level to limit potential losses.

This is not a money printer but works fine for me in the German DAX for a while now. Oil is also interesting for this strategy. No grid or martingale system is involved.

Parameters that can be user defined:

  • Lotsize (fixed)
  • Timeframe
  • Rangesize and parmeters
  • ATR assistance to detect breakouts
  • SL (fixed, moving average, trailing or "smart")
  • optional MACD exit strategy
  • Take profit (fixed or "smart")
  • Maximum allowed spread
  • Timefilter to avoid trading a gap after market opens

You have to do your own testing and find your own parameters. An example that is working for me in German DAX is attached in the screenshots.
