QCL Structure Trail for MetaTrader 5
QCL Structure Trail combines confirmed market structure breaks with an ATR-based trailing line to help traders follow directional moves and monitor changing market conditions directly on the price chart.
Its clear display includes a color-changing trailing line and optional signal arrows, keeping the chart focused on price action.
How It Works
The indicator identifies confirmed swing highs and swing lows using the selected Pivot Confirmation Length. A bullish signal appears when the closing price crosses above the latest confirmed swing high. A bearish signal appears when the closing price crosses below the latest confirmed swing low.
Signals alternate direction: another signal in the same direction is suppressed until an opposite signal occurs.
After a bullish signal, the trailing line follows the highest calculated value of Close − ATR × Multiplier. After a bearish signal, it follows the lowest calculated value of Close + ATR × Multiplier.
Within each active directional phase, the trailing line moves in one direction only. A new opposite structure-break signal resets the line.
Key Features
-
Confirmed swing structure detection.
-
Bullish and bearish structure-break arrows.
-
Volatility-based trailing line using Wilder-smoothed ATR.
-
Separate colors for bullish and bearish conditions.
-
Adjustable pivot length, ATR period and ATR multiplier.
-
Optional signal-arrow display.
-
Colors and line appearance configurable through the Colors tab.
-
No external indicator dependency.
Reading the Display
-
Green line: the most recent structure-break signal was bullish.
-
Red line: the most recent structure-break signal was bearish.
-
Up arrow: a bullish structure break.
-
Down arrow: a bearish structure break.
The trailing line changes direction when an opposite structure-break signal occurs. Crossing the trailing line alone does not generate an opposite signal or change its color.
Input Parameters
-
Pivot Confirmation Length — Default: 10
Number of bars required on each side of a swing candidate. Higher values identify broader swings and require more confirmation time. -
ATR Period — Default: 14
Period used to calculate Wilder-smoothed Average True Range. -
ATR Multiplier — Default: 4.0
Controls the volatility distance used by the trailing line. Higher values generally create a wider distance from price. -
Display Signal Arrows — Default: True
Shows or hides bullish and bearish signal arrows.
The trailing line is always enabled. Arrow distance is fixed at 0.35 ATR.
Suitable Trading Approaches
QCL Structure Trail is designed for traders who use market structure, trend-following methods and volatility-based trade management. It can support discretionary analysis on intraday and higher-timeframe charts.
Signal Timing
Swing points become available only after the required confirmation bars have formed. Signals are displayed on the breakout bar rather than placed retrospectively on the swing bar.
The current candle is evaluated in real time. Its signal and trailing-line value may change before the candle closes. Wait for candle closure when using confirmed signals.
Please Note
QCL Structure Trail is an analytical indicator. It does not open trades, place stop-loss orders or manage positions automatically. The displayed trailing line is a visual reference. Trading involves risk, and no indicator guarantees profitable results.
