Breakout Trap Detector is Designed and tested for XAUUSD (gold) on the M1 chart and BTCUSD (bitcoin) on the M15 chart.
Breakout Trap Detector shows two kinds of signals on your chart: a normal breakout signal, and a reversal signal when that breakout fails and the market turns the other way.
How it works
1) The setup
The indicator watches the market with several built-in filters. When conditions line up, it marks a reference candle and draws a white line at its high (for a buy) or its low (for a sell).
2) Normal signal (breakout)
- Green up arrow = Buy. Price broke above the reference candle's high.
- Red down arrow = Sell. Price broke below the reference candle's low.
The arrow appears the moment the break happens, while the candle is still forming, so you can enter early.
3) Reversal signal (trap)
Sometimes a breakout fails. Price breaks one side, moves a little, then turns around and breaks the other side of the same reference candle. The momentum has flipped and breakout traders are trapped.
- White up arrow + white dot = Reversal buy. A sell breakout failed and price broke back above the reference candle's high.
- White down arrow + white dot = Reversal sell. A buy breakout failed and price broke back below the reference candle's low.
The dot marks the exact price where the reversal was confirmed. The reversal is checked for the next 3 candles after a normal signal (adjustable). If the breakout candle itself closes on the opposite side, the reversal is shown on that same candle when it closes.
No repainting
Once an arrow or dot appears, it stays. Signals never disappear, move to another candle, or get redrawn. What you see in history is what you would have seen live.

How to use
1. Attach the indicator to an XAUUSD M1 or BTCUSD M15 chart.
2. Wait for a green or red arrow for a normal breakout entry.
3. If the trade goes against you and a white arrow with a white dot appears, the breakout has failed. Consider closing and taking the reversal direction.
4. Enable push notifications to get signals on your phone.
Input parameters
Momentum filter
- Momentum fast / signal period / smoothing: sensitivity of the momentum filter
- Momentum low zone / high zone: zones that must be visited before a buy / sell setup
- Momentum lookback: how many candles back the zone visit can be
Strength filter
- Use strength filter: turn the filter on or off
- Strength period: sensitivity of the strength filter
- Strength buy zone / sell zone: levels that must be touched before a setup
- Strength lookback: how many candles back the touch can be
- Strength must turn: strength must be rising (buy) or falling (sell) on the setup candle
Trend filter
- Use trend filter: turn the filter on or off
- Trend fast / slow / signal period: sensitivity of the trend filter
- Trend candles: how many candles the trend must be rising (buy) or falling (sell)
Breakout trigger
- Rolling reference: on = the level follows the previous candle; off = stays on the setup candle
- Max wait candles (default 5): candles allowed for the breakout after a setup
- Cancel on close: cancels the setup if a candle closes beyond the recent swing
- Swing candles (default 6): candles used to find that swing
- Min candles between signals (default 3)
Trap signals (failed breakout)
- Show trap signals: on / off
- Trap candles (default 3): candles after the breakout to watch for a reversal
- Same-candle trap: show a reversal on the breakout candle if it closes on the opposite side
- Trap dot colors and dot size (1-5)
- Trap arrows: on / off, with buy and sell arrow colors
- Trap alerts: on / off
Display
- Arrow distance mode: ATR based (adapts to any symbol) or fixed points
- ATR multiplier / points: how far arrows sit from the candle
- Show trigger lines, keep unfired lines, line colors and width
Alerts
- Popup, push notification, sound alert and sound file
How to trade using Breakout Trap detector : "A breakout signal is the initial trade direction. If the breakout fails and price returns through the reference level, the indicator shows a reversal signal. The white dot marks the exact breakout/reversal level.
