Smart Gold Trap is a breakout Expert Advisor for gold (XAUUSD) on MetaTrader 5. It runs nine independent breakout strategies, called traps. Each trap finds a price range, places a Buy Stop above it and a Sell Stop below it, and waits. A position only opens when gold breaks out.
HOW IT WORKS
- Read the range. Each trap measures recent highs and lows, swing points and moving averages to find where gold is consolidating.
- Set the trap. A Buy Stop goes above the range and a Sell Stop below it, each with its own stop loss and take profit.
- Filter fake breakouts. A fake breakout filter (Off, Low, Medium, High) skips setups that are likely to fall back into the range.
- Trail and close. In profit, the stop loss can trail behind recent highs or lows. Pending orders that are not triggered in time are deleted.
THE NINE TRAPS
- Traps 1–3: low risk, the base of every setting
- Traps 4–7: medium risk, more trades and larger targets
- Traps 8–9: high risk, the most active
Each trap has its own statistics on the chart dashboard.

BACKTEST
MT5 Strategy Tester, Vantage Markets demo, XAUUSD, every tick based on real ticks (99% history quality), 01.01.2023 to 01.10.2026, $5,000 deposit, default settings:
- Net profit: $157,025.43
- Profit factor: 2.69
- Trades: 2,618, winning trades 61.08%
- Maximal equity drawdown: $11,354.07 (8.69%)
- Relative equity drawdown: 25.48% ($1,788.92, September 2023)
- Recovery factor: 13.83
Lot size grows with the balance, so later trades use larger positions. This is a simulated backtest without commission. Live results will differ because of spread, slippage and execution. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Please run your own backtest on your broker's data before trading live.
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Symbol: XAUUSD (any suffix)
- Timeframe: any. The traps read their own timeframes internally. Attach the EA to one XAUUSD chart only
- Account: hedging, low spread (ECN or Raw)
- VPS: strongly recommended, because the EA must run 24/5
- Balance: the EA can start small, but on small accounts the minimum lot (0.01) makes the real risk higher than the setting. A larger balance gives the lot sizing more room
- Start on a demo account or with a lower drawdown setting until you know how the EA behaves on your broker

- AllowBuyTrades / AllowSellTrades: trade direction
