Yen Trend Rider is a trend-following Expert Advisor for USDJPY on the H1 chart. It waits for an established higher-timeframe uptrend and enters only when price is inside a defined strength zone — not at the start of a move, and not after the market is already overextended.
No martingale. No grid. No averaging. No hedging. One position at a time, and every trade is opened with a fixed stop loss and take profit.
How it manages risk
- Fixed stop loss (30 pips) and take profit (120 pips) on every trade, set at the moment of entry
- Position size calculated from your chosen risk % of balance, or a fixed lot
- Spread filter, plus margin and broker stop-level checks before every order
- Small-balance protection: uses the broker minimum lot only if that risk stays under your cap
Backtest results (USDJPY H1, real ticks 99%, January 2020 – October 2026, $1,000 start, 1-second execution delay, 458 trades)
- Risk 1%: average ≈ 18% per year · +209% total · max equity drawdown 16% · profit factor 1.34
- Risk 2%: average ≈ 36% per year · +703% total · max equity drawdown 34% · profit factor 1.28
- Risk 3%: average ≈ 53% per year · +1,701% total · max equity drawdown 46% · profit factor 1.23
- Risk 5%: average ≈ 76% per year · +4,671% total · max equity drawdown 68% · profit factor 1.15 (high risk, not recommended)
Settings were selected on 2020–2023 data only, then checked on unseen 2024–2026 data. Backtest results are not a guarantee of future results. Live results are usually lower — as a rough guide, expect about half of the backtest yearly average, and losing years are possible. Always test on a demo account first.
Minimum deposit and recommended risk
Running costs are roughly $240 in the first year (EA purchase + about $15/month for a VPS). To have a realistic chance of covering these costs and still keep a profit:
- Recommended minimum deposit: $1,500
- $1,500 – $2,500: risk 2% (realistic expectation ≈ $300 – $500 per year; drawdowns of 30%+ are possible)
- $2,500 – $5,000: risk 1.5%
- $5,000 and above: risk 1% (lowest drawdown, ≈ 16% in the backtest)
- Below $1,500: the EA works (from about $200 with 0.01 lots), but running costs will take most of the profit. Running it on your own PC instead of a paid VPS, or renting the EA, lowers the cost.
What to expect
- About 1 winning trade in 4, with winners 4 times the size of losers. Losing streaks of 10–13 trades happened in the backtest and are normal for this style.
- Roughly 40–100 trades per year.
- Results depend on USDJPY trend conditions. Range-bound or falling years can be negative.
Recommended setup
- Symbol: USDJPY · Timeframe: H1
- Low-spread broker, hedging or netting account
- VPS for 24/5 operation
