A short, once-a-week NZDUSD trade with no overnight exposure. Kiwi Hedge Flow is a MetaTrader 5 Expert Advisor that sells NZDUSD in a fixed weekly session window and closes the position the same day, aiming at a recurring hedging flow in this pair. It suits traders who accept a short-only exposure on one pair, about one trade a week and a small, cost-sensitive edge.
One position at a time, with protective stop and target on every trade, a same-day time exit and a spread filter that skips the week when costs are too high. No grid, martingale, averaging or loss recovery. There is one setting: the risk per trade. The EA finds the NZDUSD symbol at your broker by itself (with or without suffix) and works from any chart. Entry rules stay proprietary; the published tests and the Market demo allow evaluation.
Historical test evidence
These are MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester simulations, not live account results. Each test started with virtual USD 10,000, leverage 1:100 and 1.00% risk per trade, with fixed settings and no optimization.
Vantage demo data / Model 1 (1-minute OHLC); NZDUSD H1.
| Window | Period | Net result (USD) | Trades | Profit factor | Max balance DD |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| In-sample | 2021-01-01 / 2024-12-31 | +350.92 | 208 | 1.11 | 5.34% |
| Out-of-sample | 2025-01-01 / 2026-10-21 | +45.72 | 94 | 1.06 | 3.51% |
The settings were fixed before the in-sample test, and the out-of-sample period was opened once, after it, without any change. The gallery joins the closed-trade balances of the two independent tests with a labelled cut; the out-of-sample test restarted at USD 10,000 and is only shifted for display. This is neither a continuous account test nor an equity curve.
Costs from the test ledgers (USD), included in the net result: in-sample commission −150.18; out-of-sample commission −67.68. Commission was 3 USD per lot per side. Swap was zero, because no position stayed open past the daily rollover.
Material limits
The edge is thin and depends on low trading costs: profit factor 1.11 in-sample and 1.06 out-of-sample. Out of sample, the trades made +113.40 USD before costs and +45.72 USD after commission. The in-sample result is uneven: 2023 negative (−94.09 USD), 2021 almost flat (+12.12 USD) and most of the result from 2022 (+334.37 USD). Two other research lines on NZDUSD were developed over the same years; their reserved test periods were not opened, but each extra idea tested on the same pair raises the chance that a good result is luck. All trades are NZDUSD sales: sharp rallies of the New Zealand dollar against the US dollar hit every open trade, and a fast market can fill beyond the stop.
Risk and setup
The account currency must be USD; on an account in another currency the EA does not start. Attach the EA to any chart. Keep NZDUSD available in Market Watch with synchronized H1 history and correct server time. Check contract size, tick value, volume step, margin, spread, commission and trading sessions at your broker; a higher commission than 3 USD per lot per side removes most of the tested edge.
The tested risk was 1.00% per trade. The input accepts 0.01% to 10.00%; values above 1.00% were not measured in the published history and increase loss and drawdown. A small risk on a small account can fall below the broker's minimum lot; the EA then skips the trade instead of forcing a larger size. Protective orders do not guarantee the execution price.
Before renting
Test the demo in the Strategy Tester on your broker's NZDUSD data with the same risk and compare it with the published windows. With about one trade a week, a test of a few weeks shows only a handful of trades.
