GoldTrend is a decision-support trend indicator for MetaTrader 5, designed primarily for traders who analyze short-term Gold price movement on XAUUSD or broker-specific GOLD symbols.
The recommended starting environment is the M5 timeframe.
GoldTrend does not open, close, modify, or manage trades automatically. It is an indicator, not an Expert Advisor. Its purpose is to identify structured BUY and SELL trend-transition conditions while leaving all trading, position sizing, stop-loss, take-profit, and risk-management decisions to the user.
Main Purpose
GoldTrend is designed to reduce unnecessary signal activity during unclear market conditions.
Instead of producing a signal on every price fluctuation, the indicator evaluates trend structure, volatility, price-break strength, market efficiency, and abnormal volatility behavior before confirming a trend transition.
The default Science Adaptive engine is intended to make the underlying SuperTrend-style structure more responsive to changing market conditions while applying additional filters against weak or noisy transitions.
Recommended Use
Primary market:
XAUUSD / GOLD
Recommended timeframe:
M5
GoldTrend can technically be attached to other symbols and timeframes, but the recommended starting use is Gold on M5.
The indicator is not restricted to a specific broker naming convention. Depending on the broker, Gold may appear as XAUUSD, GOLD, GOLD#, XAUUSDm, or another symbol name.
How GoldTrend Works
GoldTrend starts from a SuperTrend-style directional framework and extends it with adaptive market-condition analysis.
In Science Adaptive mode, several components work together:
-
ATR-based trend structure
-
Hybrid volatility measurement
-
Adaptive volatility-regime multiplier
-
Robust shock detection
-
Kaufman Efficiency Ratio filtering
-
Break-strength measurement
-
Closed-bar trend-transition confirmation
-
Internal signal-quality scoring
The result is a trend-following signal process that can become more selective when price movement is weak or inefficient and can adapt its internal distance calculation when volatility conditions change.
Two Engine Modes
GoldTrend includes two calculation modes.
Science Adaptive is the default mode. It uses the additional volatility, regime, shock, efficiency, and quality-filtering components.
TV Parity provides the more direct compatibility-style SuperTrend calculation without the complete adaptive filtering layer.
For normal use, Science Adaptive is the recommended starting mode.
Closed-Bar Signal Architecture
GoldTrend uses closed candles for BUY and SELL signal confirmation.
The currently forming candle is excluded from signal plotting.
This is intentional.
A temporary intrabar price movement can move above or below a trend boundary and then reverse before the candle closes. GoldTrend waits for the completed bar before confirming the signal condition.
As a result, traders should not expect signals to appear immediately during every intrabar movement.
The signal is confirmed only after the required closed-bar conditions have been completed.
BUY Signal
A BUY signal is generated when the completed market structure changes from a bearish trend state to a bullish trend state and the active quality conditions are satisfied.
In Science Adaptive mode, this includes evaluation of factors such as:
-
trend-boundary penetration
-
effective volatility
-
Efficiency Ratio
-
break strength
-
adaptive trend distance
The BUY label represents a detected bullish trend transition. It is not an instruction to enter a trade automatically.
SELL Signal
A SELL signal is generated when the completed market structure changes from a bullish trend state to a bearish trend state and the active quality conditions are satisfied.
The SELL label represents a detected bearish trend transition.
The trader remains responsible for deciding whether the signal is appropriate for the current market environment and personal risk plan.
Hybrid Volatility Model
GoldTrend can combine ATR-based volatility with realized price volatility.
This allows the indicator to avoid relying on only one volatility measurement.
The ATR Weight input controls the relative contribution of ATR within the hybrid volatility calculation.
The default configuration gives ATR the dominant role while allowing realized volatility to contribute additional information about current price behavior.
Adaptive Volatility Regime
Market volatility is not constant.
GoldTrend can automatically adjust its effective trend multiplier according to the current volatility regime.
During different volatility conditions, the effective multiplier can move within defined minimum and maximum limits.
This allows the trend structure to adapt without permanently changing the user's base ATR multiplier.
The Effective Multiplier value is also available internally for analysis and diagnostics.
Robust Shock Detection
GoldTrend contains a robust shock model based on Median Absolute Deviation analysis.
Its purpose is to identify unusually large price-range behavior relative to recent conditions.
When the detected shock exceeds the configured threshold, the adaptive engine can temporarily widen its effective trend distance within controlled limits.
This mechanism is intended to reduce unnecessary trend flips during abnormal short-term volatility.
Anti-Whipsaw Quality Gate
Science Adaptive mode includes an Efficiency Ratio quality filter.
The Efficiency Ratio helps distinguish directional price movement from inefficient back-and-forth movement.
When the quality gate is enabled, a trend-boundary break alone is not necessarily sufficient to confirm a new signal.
The movement must also satisfy the configured market-efficiency requirement.
This is one of the reasons GoldTrend may remain quiet while price is moving sideways or producing repeated low-quality fluctuations.
Signal Quality Score
GoldTrend calculates an internal quality score using information derived from:
-
break strength
-
Efficiency Ratio
-
detected shock conditions
The score is intended as a diagnostic measurement of the signal environment.
Important:
The quality score is not a probability of profit and should not be interpreted as the percentage chance that a trade will win.
Chart Display
GoldTrend can display:
-
bullish trend line
-
bearish trend line
-
BUY signal labels
-
SELL signal labels
-
optional arrow markers
-
bullish and bearish trend highlighting
Users can individually adjust signal display, highlighting, arrow markers, label history, line width, and chart colors.
Alerts
GoldTrend supports MetaTrader terminal alerts when a new closed-bar BUY or SELL signal is detected.
Optional push notifications can also be enabled.
Push notifications require MetaTrader notifications to be correctly configured with the user's MetaQuotes ID.
Alerts follow the same closed-bar signal architecture and are not intended to trigger from temporary forming-candle changes.
Advanced Validation and Diagnostic Tools
GoldTrend contains optional diagnostic systems designed for users who want to study the behavior of the indicator in greater detail.
These include:
-
forensic signal logging
-
rejected-candidate logging
-
execution-aware outcome measurement
-
configurable assumed slippage for research
-
exact-tick evidence validation
-
lifecycle outcome tracking
-
market-regime context analysis
-
lifecycle health monitoring
-
out-of-sample diagnostic partitioning
-
raw broker bar recording
-
optional raw tick recording
-
shadow stop-risk analysis
-
shadow entry-condition analysis
-
latency monitoring
-
history-continuity protection
-
research-state persistence controls
These tools are primarily intended for measurement, validation, and research.
They do not send broker orders.
Diagnostic calibration, shadow-risk analysis, and out-of-sample evaluation are designed to remain separate from the main live signal process unless the user deliberately changes core signal-engine settings.
Shadow Risk Laboratory
GoldTrend includes an optional shadow-risk laboratory.
This feature can evaluate hypothetical ATR-based stop distances and compare their behavior with the underlying signal lifecycle.
It is measurement only.
No stop order is sent to the broker and no position is opened, modified, or closed by the shadow-risk system.
The purpose is to provide data that can be studied when developing an independent trade-management plan.
Raw Market Data Recording
For users performing detailed validation, GoldTrend can record closed broker bars.
Optional raw tick recording is also available for targeted research periods.
Raw tick recording can generate large amounts of data and is therefore disabled by default.
It should normally be enabled only when detailed tick-level investigation is required.
Latency and Data-Continuity Monitoring
GoldTrend includes diagnostic checks for calculation latency and history continuity.
These mechanisms can help identify situations where terminal history changes, missing bars, interrupted data flow, or unusually slow calculations may affect research evidence.
These diagnostics are not trading signals.
Suggested Starting Configuration
For a first installation, users can normally begin with the default settings:
Engine: Science Adaptive
ATR Period: 10
ATR Multiplier: 3.0
Source: Median Price
Wilder ATR: Enabled
Hybrid Volatility: Enabled
Adaptive Multiplier: Enabled
Robust Shock Widening: Enabled
Quality Gate: Enabled
Terminal Alerts: Enabled
Push Notifications: Optional
Recommended chart: XAUUSD / GOLD M5
Users should first observe the indicator with the default configuration before changing multiple parameters simultaneously.
Changing many filters at the same time can make it difficult to determine which setting is responsible for a change in signal behavior.
Practical Trading Workflow
A practical way to use GoldTrend is:
-
Attach GoldTrend to an XAUUSD or GOLD M5 chart.
-
Keep the default Science Adaptive engine for the initial evaluation.
-
Wait for a completed BUY or SELL signal.
-
Review the current price structure, spread, volatility, scheduled economic events, and broader market conditions.
-
Decide independently whether the signal fits your trading plan.
-
Define position size, stop-loss, take-profit, and maximum acceptable risk before entering any trade.
-
Avoid treating every signal as a mandatory trade.
-
Review performance over a sufficiently large sample instead of judging the indicator from only a few trades.
GoldTrend provides market information and signal guidance. Trade execution remains entirely under the user's control.
Trading Sessions
GoldTrend does not contain a mandatory London, New York, or other session restriction.
For Gold trading, many users prefer periods with greater market participation, particularly during the London session, New York session, and their overlap.
However, liquidity, volatility, spreads, and price behavior can vary significantly by broker, day, economic calendar, daylight-saving changes, and market conditions.
For this reason, fixed session times should not be treated as a guarantee of better signal performance.
Users should follow their broker's server time and the current trading-session schedule.
Economic News
Gold can react strongly to macroeconomic releases and central-bank communication.
Examples include inflation data, employment reports, interest-rate decisions, and other high-impact events.
GoldTrend can adapt its volatility calculation to changing price behavior, but it does not eliminate event risk.
During major news releases, spreads, slippage, liquidity, and price gaps can change rapidly.
The user should decide independently whether trading during such periods is consistent with their risk plan.

Important Information
GoldTrend is an analytical indicator.
It is not an Expert Advisor.
It does not automatically:
-
open trades
-
close trades
-
modify positions
-
select position size
-
place stop-loss orders
-
place take-profit orders
-
guarantee execution prices
-
guarantee trading results
All trading decisions remain the responsibility of the user.
The BUY and SELL labels represent detected market conditions according to the indicator's algorithm. They are not guarantees that price will continue in the indicated direction.
Risk Warning
Trading Forex, CFDs, and Gold on margin involves substantial financial risk and may not be suitable for every investor.
Market conditions can change quickly, and losses can exceed expectations because of volatility, gaps, spread expansion, slippage, liquidity conditions, or execution differences between brokers.
Past market behavior, historical tests, diagnostic statistics, and previous signals do not guarantee future results.
Users are solely responsible for their trading decisions, position sizing, stop-loss and take-profit policies, account risk, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
GoldTrend should be used as one component of an independent trading and risk-management process.
