Ratio X Forward Grid
Ratio X Forward Grid is a breakout-driven grid Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5.
It waits for price to break out of a volatility-scaled OCO range using Buy Stop and Sell Stop orders, then manages the resulting basket with a trend-following grid and an ATR-based trailing stop calculated from the basket average price.
The strategy does not increase lot size indefinitely. Grid levels, maximum exposure, volume behavior and trailing logic are controlled by explicit inputs, while each trading cycle is protected by configurable drawdown and risk limits.
The EA also includes an optional Multi-Market Selector. It can evaluate a group of instruments — by default GER40, NAS100, XAUUSD and US500 — and periodically score them according to trend strength, volatility efficiency, spread and market noise.
When enabled, the EA trades only the instrument with the qualifying score and automatically applies a dedicated ATR profile for that market. Entry distance, grid spacing and trailing distance therefore adapt to the selected instrument.
The Multi-Market Selector can also be disabled, allowing Ratio X Forward Grid to operate as a conventional single-symbol EA on one chart.
Key Features
- Breakout OCO Entry — Buy Stop and Sell Stop orders are placed symmetrically around price at an ATR-scaled distance. When one side triggers, the opposite pending order is cancelled.
- Trend-Following Grid — Additional positions can be opened in the direction of the active basket as price extends, up to a configurable maximum number of grid levels.
- Basket Trailing Stop — Trailing logic is calculated from the basket's average price instead of managing every position independently.
- Per-Market ATR Profiles — Separate entry, grid and trailing ATR multipliers are available for GER40, NAS100, XAUUSD and US500 and are automatically applied by the Multi-Market Selector.
- Multi-Market Selector — Optional automatic instrument selection based on a weighted combination of trend, ATR, price efficiency, spread and noise metrics. A minimum-score filter and fallback to the chart symbol are included.
- Risk Protections — Configurable maximum drawdown, daily loss and profit limits, maximum trades and cycles per day, minimum margin-level filter and optional automatic trading disable after a risk event.
- Session and Trend Filters — Optional trading-session window, Friday closing logic, moving-average trend filter and ATR band filter.
- On-Chart HUD — Displays EA state, active symbol, cycle profit/loss and current grid level directly on the chart.
- State Persistence — The EA can recover its cycle state after a terminal restart or EA recompile and continue tracking existing positions.
- Optional CSV Export — Per-cycle trading data can be recorded inside the MetaTrader terminal's sandboxed data folder.
Trading Logic
Ratio X Forward Grid operates through a defined state machine:
- Idle → Arming
The EA prepares an OCO pair consisting of a Buy Stop and Sell Stop positioned around the current market price using an ATR-based entry distance. - Waiting OCO → Active
When one pending order is triggered, the opposite pending order is cancelled and the active basket begins. - Grid Expansion
If price continues moving in the basket direction, additional entries can be added at ATR-scaled grid intervals until InpMaxGridLevels is reached. - Basket Trailing
After the configured trailing-start distance is reached, the EA calculates a trailing stop from the basket's average entry price using an ATR-scaled offset. - Closing → Cooldown → Idle
The basket can be closed by its stop logic, target logic or a configured risk-protection condition. The EA then waits through the defined cooldown period before preparing another cycle.
Strategy Tester Results
The following results were obtained in the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester for the period from 2025-01-01 to 2026-09-08, using the M15 timeframe and separate parameter optimization for each instrument.

Each instrument was optimized independently using a non-genetic parameter grid search over the entry, grid and trailing ATR multipliers.
In this specific historical test period and configuration, GER40 and NAS100 produced higher Profit Factor and Sharpe Ratio values than XAUUSD and US500. The four instruments are shown to provide transparency across the tested market set.
These figures are historical Strategy Tester results and are not real-account trading results. Past backtest performance does not guarantee future performance.
Recommended Setup
- Timeframe: M15
- Primary tested instruments: GER40 and NAS100
- Additional tested instruments: XAUUSD and US500
- Initial risk reference: InpRiskPercent between 0.15% and 0.35%
- Initial drawdown reference: InpMaxDrawdownPercent between 15% and 20%
These values are starting references for testing and are not guarantees of suitable risk for every account. Risk settings should be adapted to account size, leverage, broker specifications and the trader's own risk tolerance.
Multi-Market Setup
For the simplest configuration, enable the Multi-Market Selector and run the EA on a single chart. The EA evaluates the configured instrument universe and manages one active cycle at a time.
Alternatively, you can run separate single-symbol instances for each instrument using independent Magic Numbers and setting InpMarketSymbols to the desired symbol for each instance.
Separate instances can be useful when different risk allocations are required for different instruments.
Important: each EA instance manages its own configured exposure. When multiple instances are running simultaneously, risk should be sized according to the total account-level exposure because drawdowns between instruments may occur at the same time or become correlated during periods of market stress.
Multi-Market Selector
When the selector is enabled, Ratio X Forward Grid periodically evaluates the configured markets using several components:
- Trend strength
- ATR and volatility conditions
- Price-movement efficiency
- Current spread
- Market noise
- Minimum qualifying score
The EA then selects a qualifying instrument and automatically loads the corresponding ATR profile used for breakout distance, grid spacing and basket trailing calculations.
The default market universe is:
- GER40
- NAS100
- XAUUSD
- US500
Symbol names can vary between brokers. Make sure the required instruments are available and visible in MetaTrader 5 Market Watch before using multi-market mode.
Risk Management
Ratio X Forward Grid includes multiple configurable controls designed to limit strategy exposure:
- Maximum drawdown percentage
- Equity-based or EA-start-equity drawdown reference
- Maximum daily monetary loss
- Maximum daily monetary profit
- Maximum trades per day
- Maximum cycles per day
- Minimum margin-level requirement
- Maximum grid levels
- Initial stop protection
- Basket-level exit logic
- Optional automatic trading disable after a risk event
These protections limit exposure according to the configured parameters but cannot eliminate trading risk.

Important Risk Information
Ratio X Forward Grid uses a grid-based position management structure. Grid strategies can accumulate multiple positions and increase total market exposure before a basket is closed.
Although the EA provides configurable limits for grid depth, exposure, drawdown and daily risk, no automated risk-management system can eliminate the possibility of trading losses.
Backtest results depend on historical data, broker conditions, spreads, commissions, execution, symbol specifications and selected parameters. Future market behavior may differ materially from historical tests.
Test the EA in the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester and on a demo account before considering live trading. Use risk settings appropriate for your own account and never trade with capital you cannot afford to lose.
