Metatrader 5 does not start after update.

Hi

I have Windows 7 Pro.

I was using Metatrader 5 and a message showed up saying that an update was available.

I accepted the update but now MT5 does not start and an error message says something about ADVAPI32.DLL.

Here is a screenshot of the message.

How to resolve that ?

If it cannot be resolved, where to download the previous version that worked fine ?

Update your Windows 7 with all available official updates.

Windows 7 support will be discontinued soon, so think to upgrade your system to a modern OS.

 

Thank you but I cannot update anything for security reasons on this machine.

The only option is to rollback to the previous version that was installed.

Where can I download it ?

For security reasons ? I suppose you mean it's an illegal copy of Windows.

The good security policy is to always have all OS updates installed.

 

No, it's an official Windows 7 Pro with a License that is ok.

But this is a specific machine with specific softwares that are never updated.

There is a specific firewall that we coded in Python that only allows whitelisted traffic.

I cannot tell more details, but we really need the previous version of Metatrader 5.

Is there a way to get a version ? We have opened positions that we'd like to close asap.

Here is a proof that there was updates downloads in the past with Windows Update.

That might be a proof that we have always had licenses for this machine.

By copying the exe files. Please do a search, it has been discussed numerous time on the forum.

You don't need and can't block the update, just don't update.


 

That is not a solution. But anyway I've found one.

I have been able to download a previous version of 22nd of March 2023.

There should be a way to deactivate updates because these can lead to critical situations for example :

  • You have opened trades
  • Metatrader updates itself
  • You restart Metatrader
  • You don't have access anymore to your opened positions because MT5 does not start

As far as I know there is always a confirmation window before updating. At least I always have it, when I don't want to update, it doesn't update.

For the rest, it's up to you to manage it according to your needs, there is not and will never be a way to disable updates from MT5 side.

 

Ok but I'm not sure there is a confirmation window for the update. There is a confirmation window for restarting MT5.

So as long as you don't close MT5 then it will keep the current running version.

But as soon as you close MT5 or restart the machine then the new version will take place.
