CEdit max input size

Hi,

I'm trying to use the standard library controls (Include\Controls\) to create a form, but for some reason the CEdit control (Include\Controls\Edit.mqh) limits the entry in 63 chars.

How to bypass this limitation?

Looks like the the CEdit control is build over the OBJ_EDIT regular object, and it's 63 char limitation is associated to it.

Nevertheless, I still need a solution. Any workaround ideas are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone?

Any kind of workaround to by pass this 63 chars limitation?

Not that I'm aware of sorry. Not knowing your GUI design, the only thing I could suggest is having a second Edit box? (pretty lame I know!)

It could be a solution if it was a label, but unfortunately it's a input box.

Thanks a lot for you answer anyway.

Welcome, sorry I couldn't be more helpful ;-)

I know this topic was last discussed back in 2015, but I'd like to bring it back to life because I believe it's still limiting many MQL5 developers. I also suspect that addressing it wouldn't require a huge amount of effort from MetaQuotes, so I thought I'd give it another try.

The biggest problem I'm facing isn't actually the lack of multiline edit controls. Developers can create their own custom controls or UI classes to handle that.

The real problem is clipboard access.

Currently, CEdit, or more precisely the OBJ_EDIT chart object, is practically the only native way developers can interact with the clipboard through copy, cut, and paste operations.

This becomes a serious limitation when developing applications that deal with large amounts of input or output text. Imagine building a chatbot directly inside MetaTrader 5. You might be able to create a custom multiline text control, but allowing users to conveniently copy long responses or paste large prompts becomes unnecessarily difficult.

I believe either of the following improvements would make a significant difference:

  1. Native multiline support for OBJ_EDIT, ideally without the current text-length limitations.

  2. Programmatic clipboard access, even if it's limited to copying text from the clipboard. Something as simple as ClipboardGetText() would already solve a major part of the problem.

Personally, I think the second option would be even more valuable, as it would give developers much greater flexibility when building custom interfaces.

I genuinely struggle to see a significant downside to exposing such functionality, especially considering how much more sophisticated MQL5 applications have become over the years.

I hope this post reaches the MetaQuotes development team and encourages them to reconsider this feature.
