I think you are unreasonably excluding dark energy from consideration. It's usually the one to blame for everything in the first place....

always marvelled at the ingenuity of physicists. Where do you get so many of them (particles)? I have a feeling that their number is somehow directly proportional to physicists' salaries and grants. Man, I'm sure of it!

of course there aren't, there's dark energy. By the way, in the famous Lucas movie, for some reason I always sympathized with the dark Jedi. After all, if you break it down, they had more order, they just, wanted to managitate themselves, and that somehow correlated negatively with the other Jedi's desire to do so. Anyway, it was a long story there.
And in general even on a bare dumb formula it seems to work...the story has constant slippages at the ticks...somewhere you have to take more reliable information...
