A white-hat hacker is an ethical hacker who uses hacking skills to identify security vulnerabilities and help fix them, rather than exploit them for personal gain or to cause harm.

White-hat hackers typically work with permission from the owner of a system.
They might test websites, servers, networks, and applications to find weaknesses before criminals can exploit them.

The three types of hackers
White hat - Ethical hacking, authorised security testing, and responsible disclosure.
Grey hat - May investigate vulnerabilities without permission, but might report them rather than exploit them maliciously. Unauthorised access can still be illegal.
Black hat - Exploits vulnerabilities for criminal gain, unauthorised access, disruption, or other malicious purposes.

The key distinction is authorisation and intent.
Investigating suspicious traffic on your own server is different from accessing someone else's server or taking control of their botnet, even if the botnet is being used for DDoS attacks.
In simple terms, a white-hat hacker uses the same technical knowledge as a malicious hacker, but applies it to improve security, with appropriate permission and safeguards.

I considered my approach white-hat because my interest was in understanding the attacks, investigating the infrastructure, and learning how these systems worked rather than simply causing damage.

⚠️ Security Warning: Critical PHP Vulnerability
Please take this advisory seriously.

Organizations running PHP-based websites, including WordPress and Drupal, should verify the latest official security advisories and update to a patched PHP version as soon as possible.

This takes me back to around 2005–2010, when Google dorks, PHP RFI vulnerabilities and IRC-controlled botnets were common topics in the security scene.
Back then, attackers used Google dorks to find potentially vulnerable servers, exploiting RFI flaws to load PHP bots that connected to IRC channels for command and control, often to launch DDoS attacks.

I experimented with an indexed text file on my own server as a sort of honeypot.
Loaded it with fake RFI vulnability the google would pick up and index the links.
By monitoring the access logs, I could observe scanning activity and sometimes trace it back to IRC infrastructure.
Bot nicknames often followed predictable patterns, and some setups exposed passwords in plain text.

It was a different era of cybersecurity — much of the infrastructure was surprisingly exposed compared with what we see today.

You could disguise yourself as one of the bots and lurk in the IRC channel, waiting for the botmaster to log in and potentially expose the botnet password in plain text. If you were quick enough, you could use the .login and .password commands to take over control of the botnet.

Markov Matrix: Includes an HMM allocator that generates the signals.
Custom Bot: Designed to read and execute signals from the HMM.
Dashboard: Provides a centralised interface for monitoring the system.

Markov Matrix – Start of the Week

HMM Update: Changed the update interval from 5 minutes to 15 minutes.
Commission Costs: Commissions were eating into my edge, costing over $150. (weekly)
Swap fees were manageable, so commission was the main issue.

My plan moving forward:

First, test whether changing the HMM update interval to 15 minutes improves performance.
If that doesn’t help, I’ll inverse the 14 worst-performing Forex pairs.
If performance still doesn’t improve, I’ll select three pairs from each group and remove the remaining.

The goal is to reduce costs, improve the strategy’s edge, and narrow down the pairs that perform best.

New strategy —
I was thinking of either giving away the source code for free or releasing the EA as a free product.

Traders, what do you prefer: free source code or a free product?
I’ll explain how to use it properly, so don’t let the menu put you off.
It’s very easy to configure, and I can also provide some set files if you prefer.
There are a lot of different combinations available, and it works on Forex too.

When the vsAvg turns Aqua, the EA opens a trade and uses the D1 daily percentages as the bias direction.
You can configure the percentage threshold as a minimum, giving you control over how strong the daily bias needs to be before a trade is taken.
