Interesting Variable Risk method, can you give the reasons or explanation to why this would be beneficial? Thanks!

This mode would only work with the one trade at a time approach, but your EA provided a multiple trade approach as well, right?

Can you add a 2nd mode for the Lots Size Risk, to add the mode to allocate lot size risk by percentage of balance, rather than by Stoploss?

In order to trade the multiple trade approach, you could have initial trade set by balance percentage or per N of balance, and then a Variable risk to multiple the subsequent lots, ie smaller than 1 to reduce subsequent trades or larger than 1 to increase trades, also might be useful.

Yes Max, variable risk works better with one trade at a time strategies. When the market is upset and consecutive losses occur, the risk will be reduced each time and vice versa for a profitable period.

The risk setting is allocating lot size as a percentage of balance already, simply the calculation is based on the virtual stop loss setting.

The variable risk setting will be applied to multiple trades too, only the smaller or larger lot size of each new trade will be based on the last closed trade's result (positive or negative).

I don't see how the complex lot size calculation you are proposing will benefit things... but I am ready to discuss your ideas.

Thank you for your great review about this EA by the way, you are a trustworthy friend here for some years now.

Anyway, now I thought some more I answered my own question, maybe I will try this out...

Still think a 2nd lot-risk mode for multiple trades approach

Yes understood thank you.

My idea is for the multiple trade approach, is for the first trade risk to be defined by balance, ie may be calculated like 0.01 lot per $1000; you can set in EAs options either the lot or the balance for calculation, i.e. 1.0 lot per $1000 (1000 fixed internal) or 0.01 lot per $100 (0.01 lot fized internal.) Then a simple multiplier (although I know in your description you said No martingale) for subsequent lots, i.e. 0.8 multiplier to gradually reduce the rate of increase of the total lots with multiple trades, or 1.2 to gradually increase total lots and more trades open. This method can be moderated by the other settings like allowing a time window.

I will give this some thought Max, even though I don't like the idea of multipliers.

I've never used the lot size calculation of fixed lot per $1000 in my EAs, because I always use stop loss in my strategies, this type of calculation usually is common among non-stop loss concepts.

But even if you don't want to use stop loss, you can always put a distant virtual stop loss in your settings, just in order to be used as a guide for the % of balance that it will be risked in every trade and never get hit (for example 20% risk with 5000 points virtual stop loss, instead of 2% risk for a 500 points SL).

A new improved EURUSD H4 strategy has been uploaded with the new 1.60 update.

With this new default settings, the variable risk takes advantage of strong trends during 2020 and trades with much lower risk during the first months of 2021, avoiding losses, due to nervous and indecisive market.

Here is the MT5 100% quality 2020-2021 backtest:

Dear friends,

MA EA MT4 was updated today with the following changes:

1. The Trading Hours format has been changed in order to be optimizable.

2. Saturday and Sunday were added in the trading days in order to be able to use MA EA MT4 with cryptocurrencies too.

3. A new EURUSD D1 default strategy was added.

Please update your MA EA MT4.

Eleni Anna Branou

Dear friends,

I have received some feedback that some of the set files I introduced 2 months ago, based on the 2021 Moving Average EA MT4 backtests, were not doing that great at the beginning of 2022.

I was also 'instructed' that a longer period of optimization, 2-3 years back instead of the 12 month optimization I am usually doing, would produce better and more adaptable to all kinds of market results.

In the previous 2 months, I've performed optimizations for a few symbols, based on a 3 year period (2019-2021) but I regret to say that the set files I produced were performing worse in 2022 than those that were based on 2021 alone.

So my idea that a closer to current market optimization would work better on the future market, is not that far from truth after all.

From now on all the optimizations I will perform will be based on the following sequence:

1. Two months after the 12 month period I want to optimize, I will perform new optimizations for all symbols, based on the prior to these 2 months period, for example I did new optimizations in February for the entire 2021.

2. I will test the best results that come out of that optimization, on the entire 12 month + 2 extra months period that has already passed, so in this example I backtested all optimized results on the entire 2021, plus Jan-Feb of 2022.

3. I am keeping only the results that perform well in these 2 extra months that follows the optimization period, so in our example I publish new set files only for the results and symbols that perform well at the beginning of 2022 too.

4. I will repeat this procedure 2 times every year, in February and in July, so you would expect new set files for the Moving Average EA MT4 in coming August and in March of 2023 next.

I wish you all health and prosperity!

Dear friends,

Moving Average EA MT4 has been updated with the following changes:

1. The addition of Stop Loss, Take Profit, Break Even and Trailing Stop Loss levels in Percentage of Average Daily Range of a set number of Average Daily Range Candles.

2. An EA Comment setting has been added, that allows the user to insert a custom comment in all Moving Average EA MT4 trades.

3. Monday and Friday trading hours have been removed, because they were adding complexity to the EA, making optimizations more difficult without any gain to the results.

Please update your Moving Average EA MT4 and load the new optimized set files for 2023, that include the new SL/TP/BE ans trailing SL levels in Percentage of Average Daily Range.

Yes, of course Max, Start and End Hour and Minutes are still available, only Monday and Friday hours have been removed because they were confusing things, adding to the overfitting of optimized set files.

Hello Phillip,

Please tell me what settings did you use for your XAUUSD backtest?

Have you tested my provided set files in your MT4 strategy tester before you bought the EA?

Have you placed the ColoredMA indicator files into your MT4 >> File >> Open Data Folder >> MQL4 >> Indicators folder?

I am attaching these files below, unzip the folder first please.

My current recommendation is to trade only AUDCAD, GBPCAD, GBPJPY, US500 set files with a low 0.5% to 1% risk per trade.

Contact me please to discuss about it.

Dear friends,

Moving Average EA MT4 has been updated with 3 new additions.

1. A new First Session Trade on Next Signal setting has been added that will open the first trade when the EA is first attached on the chart and in every next trading session (at the Start Hour/Minutes), right away when this setting is false (by default) or at the next opposite signal when it is true. This way you will be able to avoid exhausted signals that are near to their end.

2. Also a Minimum Distance to MA in Points setting has been added, that will help avoiding too close to the ColoredMA signals, in periods that the market is consolidating and has no clear trend.

3. Finally a new Moving Average filter has been added, that can be used as a trend filter with a higher Moving Average period than the main Moving Average (ColoredMA) period above.

Also new optimized set files for many symbols have been published. You can see the new backtests and optimized set files here: https://www.mql5.com/en/blogs/post/745753
