Volume Profile Horizon
Where Volume Concentrates.
Manual ranges. Daily volume profiles. Multiple market periods on one MetaTrader 5 chart.
Volume Profile Horizon is an interactive fixed-range volume analysis indicator for MetaTrader 5. It converts available broker tick-volume data into a horizontal distribution across price levels, helping traders examine where estimated market activity was concentrated within a chosen period.
Instead of applying a single profile to an entire chart, you decide precisely which candles or broker-calendar days to study. Create individual profiles, compare multiple periods, and keep the most relevant reference levels visible alongside price.
1. Choose the Range That Matters
The indicator provides two independent ways to create a range. Both can be used together in the same workspace.
| Range method | Selection | Volume source |
|---|---|---|
| Manual | Two candles selected directly on the chart | Timeframe active when selection begins |
| Daily | One or several dates from the built-in calendar | Broker M1 candle history |
2. Manual Range: Candle-to-Candle Precision
Use Manual when you want to investigate a specific price move, consolidation, reaction, or historical interval without being limited to a predefined calendar day.
- Open Manual on the indicator panel.
- Click the first candle to mark point A.
- Click a second candle to mark point B. The indicator builds the volume profile for the selected candles, including both endpoints.
Flexible direction: You may select the earlier candle first or choose the later candle first. The range is normalized chronologically, so either selection order is accepted.
Timeframe retained: The source timeframe is captured when you start the selection. A manual profile retains that timeframe even after you switch the chart to a different period.
Clear selection guides: A live cursor guide helps identify points A and B. Press Esc to cancel selection before completion. The guide uses a contrasting color based on the chart background.
Developing ranges: When a saved manual range includes the current source candle, the profile can update as the source candle develops. Historical ranges retain their chosen endpoints.
3. Daily Range: Broker-Day Volume Profiles
The Daily section offers a calendar-based workflow for reviewing complete trading days or following the developing profile of the current broker day.
- Open Daily to display the monthly calendar.
- Move between months and select one or several available dates.
- Click Create selected to add a separate volume profile for each selected date.
- Use Manage to select, compare, show, hide, or edit the created daily profiles.
Multiple dates in one operation: Queue several dates in the calendar and create their profiles together, subject to the workspace limit. Selected dates are marked before creation, while previously saved dates have their own visual status.
Duplicate-day protection: Clicking an already saved date selects its existing profile instead of creating a duplicate for the same broker day.
Consistent M1 source: Daily profiles are calculated from available one-minute candles, regardless of the chart timeframe currently displayed. Switching the chart to M5, H1, or another period does not change the daily profile's source timeframe.
Current-day development: Today's daily profile uses the available M1 candles up to the current broker time and is recalculated as new source data becomes available. Completed historical days remain tied to their calendar dates.
Broker-time calendar: Dates follow the broker server's calendar day, not a manually defined London, New York, or custom trading session. Future dates cannot be added. Days without available M1 bars cannot produce a calculated profile.
Historical-data status: The panel distinguishes available data, data still synchronizing, and potentially partial or unverified M1 history. This is particularly relevant when viewing older dates with incomplete broker history.
4. Read the Volume Profile
Horizontal volume histogram: Each row represents a small price interval inside the selected range. Longer rows indicate higher estimated tick-volume concentration relative to the other rows of that profile.
Point of Control (POC): The price row with the largest calculated volume. It highlights the profile's strongest estimated volume concentration.
Value Area High (VAH) and Value Area Low (VAL): The upper and lower boundaries of a calculated Value Area containing approximately 70% of the profile's total estimated volume. The area is developed outward from the POC using adjacent volume rows.
Optional up/down candle split: Switch between a single-color histogram and an approximate directional split. The split classifies source-candle volume according to candle direction; it does not measure aggressive buyer or seller transactions.
Range labels and boundaries: Display A/B markers, a range ID, source timeframe or daily date, source-candle count, and optional POC/VAH/VAL lines for additional context.
5. Compare and Manage Up to 20 Profiles
The Manage section brings manual and daily profiles into one organized workspace. Each created profile receives its own identifier and retains its range boundaries, timeframe or date, and display settings.
Select a saved profile to work with it. Use Edit to open that profile's styling controls, Hide/Show to control chart visibility without deleting it, or Delete with confirmation when it is no longer needed. The list supports pagination as the collection grows.
You can display multiple saved profiles together to compare estimated volume distribution between different trading days, a directional move and its consolidation, or two historical intervals.
6. Personalize Each Profile
Histogram resolution: Adjust from 24 to 240 price rows to select a broader or finer display of estimated volume concentration. The initial default is 80 rows.
Colors and opacity: Choose an available profile color and set opacity between 5% and 100%. Value Area rows are emphasized within the histogram.
Reference lines: Independently control POC, VAH, and VAL line visibility and select their colors. Hiding the reference lines does not remove the histogram itself.
Per-profile presentation: Adjust individual profile colors, row resolution, split mode, information caption, and level visibility without applying the same choices to every saved range.
Shared A/B boundaries: Turn the A and B range markers on or off across all displayed profiles from the Style section.
Adaptive panel layout: The floating interface adapts its size to the chart area and terminal display scale. You can minimize it to a compact logo and reopen the controls when needed.
7. Local Workspace and Settings
Saved range definitions and their presentation settings are stored locally in the MetaTrader terminal. The indicator also maintains a backup of the saved workspace data to assist with recovery if the primary file is unreadable.
Storage Key: Leave the optional key blank for a chart-specific workspace, or give it a name to reopen the workspace on another chart of the same symbol later. A named workspace cannot be opened simultaneously by two charts. Only one instance of Volume Profile Horizon is supported on a chart.
Key input groups: Initial profile rows, profile color and opacity; POC and Value Area visibility and colors; A/B boundary visibility; panel scale (75%-200%); panel X/Y position; and optional Storage Key.
Each profile supports a maximum of 12,000 source candles. Profiles beyond that limit cannot be calculated until a shorter interval is selected.
8. Practical Analysis Examples
Compare days: Create daily profiles for several broker dates and inspect how POC and Value Area levels shift between sessions.
Study a selected movement: Draw a manual range around a specific price expansion, then create another range around the subsequent consolidation to compare their volume distributions.
Observe the current day: Keep today's daily profile visible as new M1 candle information becomes available, and compare it with a saved historical day.
9. Understanding the Data
Volume Profile Horizon uses broker tick volume, not exchange volume-at-price. For each source candle, its tick volume is allocated evenly across the price rows touched by that candle's high-to-low range. The resulting profile is an estimate of where broker-observed activity was distributed across price levels.
The indicator does not access live order-book depth, exchange trade prints, true bid/ask aggressor volume, or executed buy/sell delta. Its results depend on the broker's history, the selected source timeframe, and the availability of source candles. Daily profiles require M1 history.
Volume Profile Horizon is a chart analysis indicator. It does not place orders, execute strategies, or generate automated buy and sell signals.
