Here is my custom modification of RenkoLiveChart expert for building autoupdated offline Renko charts using a non-standard timeframe.

Main changes from publicly available v600.2 are:

  • fixed some errors in wicks handling;
  • single time execution during weekend by startup timer (otherwise the experts is waiting for nonexistent ticks and does not produce Renko chart until Monday);

Great idea .I use Renko all the time. The trouble with a Renko EA is that it is a bit slow and signals generated can be preceded by other methods. It does however depend on your box size . So a lower box size will generate quicker responses, obviously, but it does defeat the purpose of Renko Charts that are mainly used for trend continuation purposes.

The Vitual live renko chart is pretty cool . You should consider a  "poor man's "  version of the EA for people like me :)

Pardon me, Olivier, I'm not sure I got it. Do you mean a version of EA with a visible renko chart? It will not pass the Market checkup, because it's based on an autoupdated offline chart.

Please note that I've just found a bug in my source. Change the line:

if(ShowWicks && DnWick < PrevLow && UpTrend)

 to:

Yes, you are right. This is a matter of the box size optimization for every specific symbol. Unfortunately, MT tester does not provide any means for renko. This is why I ended up with a custom indicator for trade simulation, which I invoke manually with different parameters and analyzse outcome. Not so much convenience, but I don't know other workarounds. Everybody, please share your experience.

Please provide more details: the expert settings, timeframe and symbol used, tester settings, errors or warnings in log, MT version, etc.

Please provide more details (see my comment above). Don't tell me about "all" timeframes or symbols. I need a concrete environment to reproduce your problem. Currently I can not do that, EA works for me without an issue.

Also please specify EURUSDpro contract.

Also please attach complete tester logs, broker info and account type. Send me all the data (including mentioned in 2 previous posts) via PM, I'll contact the service desk because this looks like a problem with the platform.

Try to test on MQ demo server. If it works, try to understand what is difference between MQ specification and your broker specification.

According to official MetaQuotes support, OrderCloseBy can be disabled by broker on server-side. MQL4 API (client-side platform) does not provide any means to check this setting (at least at the moment). Because this expert adviser uses OrderCloseBy (to spare additional spread on every transaction for you), please, consult with documentation provided by your broker and test the program in your environment in order to check if it conforms to your account specifications. Future versions of the expert may be improved to workaround this limitation by using OrderClose at the expense of "doubled" spread.

my backtest does not look that bad, overall profitable. It's not a fast gainer and only gains few times. Most of the time growth is more or less flat / equity shrinking a bit. Trailing stop feature is not clear - with 1 or 2 boxes TS it turns to a loosing EA. Don't undertand why vendor suggests different timeframes, as it is renko.

Try to optimize SL settings and renko box size. I admit there can be instruments with complicated behaviour.

As for the recommended timeframes, this is an algorithm specific advice. The expert trades by ticks, but it does not store ticks and analyzes near history by bars (100 bars). The lesser your preferred renko box size is, the lesser timeframe you can choose, even M1, but I did not try this scalping strategy.

I think this is a general question for every EA, except those trading on offline charts. Since my renko bot is trading on online charts, one can test it in ticks mode made sure best fine grained historical data is downloaded into the tester (this is how modelling quality formed). As far as I mentioned that I did not try scalping, I'm not sure which Renko Scalping EA do you mean.

Is the RenkoLiveChart required or can your EA be added to Renko charts generated by someone else: RenkoChase for example?

From the Renko Charts I have used they all work on offline charts. If I understand correctly RenkoLiveCharts will generate a 1 minute chart that is live and then we open an Offline Chart (your screenshots say M4) and then your Renko Bot goes on this OFFLINE chart. 

The EA will then trade automatically.

Is this all correct?

By the way, TradingView.com has a plan with Renko Charts with a number of Strategies (listed under tab Indicators) that can be modified to auto run back and forward testing of Renko strategies.  Unfortunately it does not link to live accounts yet.

Results in my backtest was very good.

EA not worked in xau/usd, I'll test on another platform.
