Nadaraya Watson Bands
Nadaraya Watson Bands is a MetaTrader 5 chart indicator that displays an adaptive price channel using trailing Gaussian kernel regression. The upper and lower bands help visualize price movement around a smoothed reference value.
How it works
The internal reference value is a Gaussian-weighted average of the current price and the preceding 499 bars. Band width is the average absolute price-to-reference deviation over 499 bars, multiplied by the selected multiplier. Only the upper and lower bands are plotted; the internal center line is not displayed.
The calculation uses current and past prices only, without future-bar information. Values on the current, unfinished bar update with incoming ticks. Closed-bar values are stable when the underlying price history is unchanged. Broker history corrections or additional historical data can cause recalculation.
Inputs
- Kernel bandwidth: controls the Gaussian weighting. Default 8.0; must be greater than zero.
- Band width multiplier: scales the average deviation. Default 3.0; must be zero or greater.
- Applied price: Close, Open, High, Low, Median, Typical or Weighted price. Default Close.
- Upper band color: default Teal.
- Lower band color: default Red.
Usage
Attach the indicator to a MetaTrader 5 chart and allow sufficient history to load. At least 998 bars are required for the first complete band value. The indicator uses the chart symbol and timeframe.
For automated analysis, buffer 0 contains the upper band and buffer 1 contains the lower band. Use closed bars for confirmed readings and check for EMPTY_VALUE during the initial calculation period.
This is a visual analysis indicator. It does not open trades or provide alerts. A band touch or breakout is not a guaranteed trading signal. Support is available through MQL5 messages and product comments.
