Extreme Stress Test: Impressive Result or Unacceptable Risk?
Out of curiosity, I ran Breakouter under deliberately extreme conditions:
• Real-tick backtest
• Six markets
• Initial deposit: 4,000
• Risk per trade: 5%
• Leverage: 1:5000
• Total trades: 4,792
The result was extraordinary:
• Net profit: 35,535,537.04
• Profit factor: 1.93
• Win rate: 75.23%
• Maximum equity drawdown: 78.75%
At first glance, the multimillion result attracts all the attention. For me, however, the most important figure is the 78.75% equity drawdown.
The account survived the test, but survival is not the same as responsible risk management. High leverage did not create the strategy’s edge—it mainly provided sufficient margin for extremely aggressive compounding.
This is an experimental stress test only. It is neither the recommended Breakouter configuration nor a setting I would use on a live account. The regular tests and my signal use substantially more conservative risk.
I would be interested in your honest opinion:
At what point does compounding stop being useful and become a pure survival experiment?
Would you judge such a test primarily by its profit, its drawdown, or by the stability of the underlying trading statistics?
