Northstar Fair Value Gap Signals MT5
Northstar Fair Value Gap Signals MT5 is a visual, rule-based chart-analysis indicator for MetaTrader 5. It identifies confirmed three-candle Fair Value Gap (FVG) zones and adds buy or sell arrows only when price retests a zone and the selected confirmation logic agrees.
It is built for traders who want a consistent way to review FVG retests without turning every gap into a signal. The default configuration combines gap quality, price-action confirmation, and an optional Ichimoku trend filter to keep the display selective.
Visual-only indicator: Northstar does not open, modify, or close trades. It does not send alerts, make external requests, use DLLs, or collect personal data.
What you see on the chart
- Bullish FVG zones and bearish FVG zones, drawn from confirmed closed candles.
- Buy arrows for qualified bullish-zone retests.
- Sell arrows for qualified bearish-zone retests.
- Optional handling and display of mitigated zones.
- Configurable zone colours, opacity, and extension length.
Signal framework
A marker is produced only after the following sequence is satisfied:
- A three-candle Fair Value Gap is identified on completed candles.
- The gap passes the configured minimum-width and, if enabled, displacement and directional-middle-candle filters.
- Price retests the unmitigated FVG zone.
- At least one enabled reversal pattern occurs at the zone: an engulfing reversal, a pin bar, or a three-bar reversal.
- The pattern meets its configured body, range, wick, close-location, and FVG-midpoint requirements.
- When enabled, the Ichimoku context agrees with the intended direction.
Closed-bar logic: arrows are evaluated from completed candles. The live candle is excluded from the marker calculation, so a new arrow is not based on an unfinished bar.
Price-action confirmation
- Engulfing reversal: a two-candle directional reversal at the FVG.
- Pin bar reversal: a long-wick rejection candle that meets configurable range and wick-ratio rules.
- Three-bar reversal: a three-candle directional reversal structure at the FVG.
Each pattern can be enabled or disabled independently. You can also require the pattern close to be beyond the FVG midpoint for a more selective definition of the retest.
Optional Ichimoku context
The optional Ichimoku filter is designed to help align the FVG retest with chart context. It uses the cloud aligned to the signal candle, accounting for the forward displacement of the Senkou spans.
- Require price to close outside the aligned cloud.
- Require Tenkan-sen and Kijun-sen directional agreement.
- Optionally add Chikou confirmation for a more selective filter.
- Adjust Tenkan, Kijun, and Senkou B periods to suit your workflow.
Disable the Ichimoku filter if you prefer to use the FVG and pattern logic independently.
Input groups
- General — instance tag for multiple copies on the same symbol and timeframe.
- FVG Detection — bars to scan, minimum gap width in points, ATR-based middle-candle displacement, and directional gap-bar requirement.
- FVG Retest Pattern Confirmation — enable the three pattern types and adjust body, range, wick, close-location, midpoint, and arrow-offset settings.
- Ichimoku Trend Filter — enable the filter and configure Tenkan, Kijun, Senkou B, cloud, Tenkan/Kijun, and Chikou conditions.
- FVG Zone Display — show or hide zones, choose touch, midpoint, or full-fill mitigation, keep or remove mitigated zones, and set colours, opacity, and extension.
Practical workflow
- Start with the defaults on the symbol and timeframe you plan to analyse.
- Use the zones to identify where price is returning to an imbalance area.
- Use an arrow as a completed-bar chart-review event, not as an automatic instruction.
- Apply your own higher-timeframe context, entry method, invalidation level, position size, and exit plan.
The default settings are intentionally selective. For a denser display, reduce the minimum gap width or displacement threshold only after reviewing the impact on your chosen symbol and timeframe. Point values and volatility characteristics differ between instruments.
Installation
- Download the product through the MetaTrader 5 Market.
- Open Navigator > Market, then attach Northstar Fair Value Gap Signals MT5 to a chart.
- Review the input groups and apply your preferred visual and filtering settings.
Technical notes
- For MetaTrader 5 only.
- One indicator file; no external dependencies or additional data files.
- No trading operations, DLL calls, web requests, notifications, or personal-data collection.
- Changing inputs, symbol, timeframe, or broker history can change the historical display. Test your settings before using them in a live workflow.
Important
This product is a configurable technical-analysis tool, not financial advice. A zone or arrow is not a trading instruction and does not guarantee any result. Trading involves risk. Evaluate the indicator on the symbols and timeframes you use and make all trading decisions according to your own plan and risk limits.
