Pin Bar Trend Pullback

Pin Bar Trend Pullback trades a classic pullback entry: a pin bar that rejects the fast moving average shortly after a fresh cross, in the direction of the main trend.

Rules for a buy (sells are the exact opposite)

  • Trend filter: EMA 50 above SMA 200
  • EMA 6 has crossed above EMA 18 within the last 10 candles and is still above it
  • The last closed candle is a pin bar: body under 50% of its range, upper wick under 10% of its range
  • Its low dips below EMA 6 and it closes above EMA 6
  • A buy stop is placed at the pin bar high, the stop loss at its low and the take profit at 1.5 times the risk
  • If the next candle does not trigger the order, the order is cancelled (with a broker-side expiry as a backstop)

Every number above is an input: the four averages, body and wick percentages, the maximum distance from the cross, the reward to risk ratio and an optional entry buffer.

Risk and orders

  • Fixed lot, or a percentage of the balance at risk, sized from the stop distance with the broker's tick value, volume step and limits
  • Free margin and the account's pending order limit are checked before every order
  • Optionally one position at a time
  • Decisions are taken once per closed candle, so the result does not depend on ticks inside the candle

On the chart

The EA draws the four averages it uses and marks past pin bar signals when it starts, then marks each new signal, so you can check every entry by eye.

Honest note

This is a rule-based tool, not a promise of profit. In our minute-by-minute replay of the default rules on XAUUSD H1 over twelve months, the result was close to breakeven, with buys doing better than sells in a rising market. Test your symbol and timeframe in the Strategy Tester, and consider trading only in the direction of the higher-timeframe trend, before using it on a live account.

The indicator only reads closed candles, and every arrow and every result mark is written once and never moved or removed. Statistics panel The panel tests the signals on the chart
