Black Swan Moving Edge is an Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5 built around the interaction between price and Simple Moving Averages (SMA).
Unlike traditional Moving Average crossover systems, Moving Edge does not require two averages to cross. Instead, the EA monitors the relationship between price and a selected SMA and looks for a price touch of the Moving Average from a predefined direction.
The EA can monitor SMA 20 and SMA 50 across multiple timeframes simultaneously, with independent configuration of timeframes, Moving Averages and position sizes.
How the Strategy Works
The core concept behind Black Swan Moving Edge is the Moving Average Touch.
When price moves sufficiently away from a Moving Average, the EA identifies the side from which price is approaching. It then waits for price to return to the SMA area.
BUY condition: price approaches the Moving Average from above and returns to touch the SMA.
SELL condition: price approaches the Moving Average from below and returns to touch the SMA.
After an entry, the One Trade Per Touch system can prevent additional positions from being opened during the same touch event. Price must first move away from the Moving Average before a new signal can be generated.
This mechanism is designed to reduce repeated entries while price remains around the same Moving Average area.
Moving Averages
The EA includes two independently configurable Simple Moving Averages:
SMA 20
Default period: 20
SMA 50
Default period: 50
Each Moving Average can be individually enabled or disabled, and its period can be modified from the EA inputs.
Multi-Timeframe Analysis
Black Swan Moving Edge can monitor several timeframes simultaneously:
M5 · M15 · M30 · H1 · H4
Each timeframe can be independently enabled or disabled.
Position size can also be configured separately for each Moving Average / Timeframe combination.
For example, SMA20 on M5 can use a different lot size from SMA20 on H1 or SMA50 on M15.
Automatic Trade Management
Black Swan Moving Edge includes automatic position management through:
Stop Loss — initial protection distance.
Take Profit — initial profit target.
Trailing Stop — optional dynamic Stop Loss management with configurable activation distance, trailing distance and minimum adjustment step.
The EA also includes a 3-level Progressive Stop Loss Protection system.
As a position reaches predefined profit distances, the Stop Loss can progressively move to different protection levels.
With the default configuration:
Level 1: Profit +8 → SL at -3
Level 2: Profit +12 → SL at 0
Level 3: Profit +16 → SL at +5
All levels are configurable from the EA inputs.
Entry Control
Users can independently enable:
BUY trades
SELL trades
or both directions.
The One Trade Per Touch option can restrict the EA to one position for each individual Moving Average touch event.
A Maximum Open Trades parameter is also available to limit the number of positions that can be simultaneously opened by the EA on the symbol.
Trade Identification
Every position opened by the EA contains a dedicated MetaTrader comment.
Examples:
Black Swan Moving Edge M5 SMA20 BUY
Black Swan Moving Edge H1 SMA50 SELL
This makes it easy to identify the timeframe, Moving Average and trade direction responsible for each entry.
