Golden Twin Dragons is a long-only Expert Advisor for XAUUSD on MetaTrader 5.
It runs two breakout engines side by side on an H1 decision timeframe while attached to an M30 chart: a primary trend-breakout engine filtered by EMA 40 / EMA 200 and a weekly SMA 10 regime check, and a secondary pullback-recovery and M30-continuation engine that re-enters inside an established trend.
Exits are ATR based: initial stop at 2.0 x ATR(14), trailing stop at 3.75 x ATR, maximum holding period 300 bars.
Maximum loss per position is bounded before entry. Every position carries a hard stop from the moment it opens. No martingale, no grid, no averaging down.
PROTECTION
- Equity guardian: hard stop-out at 5% daily loss and 25% total loss, measured on this EA's own closed deals only, so deposits and withdrawals cannot trigger a false lock.
- News filter: blocks entries 30 minutes before and after high-impact events.
- Rollover block: no entries between 23:55 and 00:05 server time.
- Spread ceiling: no entry above 1.50 USD spread.
- Deterministic fail-close: after repeated order failures the EA closes only its own positions and stands down.
WHAT IT IS NOT - PLEASE READ
This EA has no bear-market or range detection and it cannot go short. The short branch does not exist in the code. In a multi-year gold downtrend or a long sideways market, losses will continue and accumulate. This is a design limitation, and it has already happened twice in testing.
Only one configuration has been measured: a USD 10,000 hedging account. Cent accounts, non-USD account currencies and symbols with a contract size other than the standard 100 oz have not been tested.
TEST RESULTS - ALL WINDOWS, INCLUDING THE LOSING ONES

Four of the five windows were measured after the strategy was fixed. Three of those four lost money. The development window is shown separately because it is the window the parameters were chosen on, and it should not be read as evidence.
CONCENTRATION - THE MOST IMPORTANT CAVEAT
Across all 4,196 closed trades, 82.6 percent of gross profit comes from three calendar years: 2020, 2025 and 2026. 2020 alone accounts for 35.6 percent. Within the 2025-2026 window, January 2026 alone produced 57 percent of that window's entire profit. Remove those periods and the system is close to flat.
This is characteristic of trend following on a single instrument. It earns during strong directional moves and gives back during everything else. Buy it only if you accept multi-year flat or losing stretches while waiting for those moves.
DRAWDOWN
Maximum floating equity drawdown 16.52 percent, which is USD 2,159 on a USD 10,000 account, measured relative to the equity peak at the time.
TRADE FREQUENCY
704 closed positions in the 2025-2026 window. The last closed trade in that window is 2026-03-12, so no positions closed in the final five months of the declared range. Over the period in which trades actually occurred this is roughly 590 trades per year; over the full declared range it is 423 per year. Both numbers are stated so you can judge for yourself.
LOT FLOOR
On a USD 10,000 account the position size sits at the 0.01 lot minimum for 100 percent of orders in the 2025-2026 window. At this account size, risk-percent settings have limited effect because the broker minimum lot dominates. Larger accounts restore proportional sizing.
REQUIREMENTS
Platform: MetaTrader 5. Account type: Hedging. Symbol: XAUUSD, standard 100 oz contract. Chart: M30. Account currency: USD. Minimum tested balance: USD 10,000. A VPS is recommended, because the EA must be running to manage its stops.
KEY INPUTS
SizingReferenceBalance = 100000. This is not your account balance. It is a fixed notional used to convert RiskPerSystemPct into a lot size. If you change it to your balance, position sizing collapses and the EA will almost never trade.
InitialAccountBalance: set this to your actual starting balance.
GuardianStateGeneration: increment by 1 and restart after a deposit or withdrawal, to re-baseline the equity guardian.
InpAIMode = 0: the adaptive module is disabled and was off for every published measurement. Leave it at 0.
