Hello,
I am developing an Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5 intended for publication on the MQL5 Market.
The EA is attached to one chart, but internally monitors and trades several predefined symbols using functions such as SymbolSelect(), CopyRates() and SymbolInfoTick().
The symbols are fixed by the EA and are not selected dynamically by the user.
Is this multi-symbol architecture permitted for an EA published on the MQL5 Market, provided that the EA works correctly during automatic Market validation?
I would like confirmation specifically regarding MQL5 Market publication requirements.
Thank you.
Hi Eddy,
Yes, one EA can trade multiple symbols internally, provided it handles them correctly during Market validation.
The important point is that you should not restrict the product to specific hard-coded broker symbol names only. The EA should work with valid symbols available in the trading environment and handle unavailable symbols gracefully.
Rule IV.8 is mainly about publishing multiple near-identical products that differ only by symbol, timeframe, or settings. It does not prohibit one from properly designing EA for trading multiple symbols.
So the safest approach is: one product, robust multi-symbol handling, no unnecessary symbol-specific copies or restrictions.
Yes, this is allowed.Yes, this is allowed. Two practical points worth adding. First, OnTick only fires for the chart symbol, so drive the extra symbols from OnTimer (EventSetTimer(1)) rather than waiting for ticks. Second, in the tester CopyRates on non-chart symbols loads history asynchronously, so expect -1 on the first calls and retry instead of failing init.
The CopyTicks() function allows requesting and analyzing all received ticks. The first call of CopyTicks() initiates synchronization of the symbol's tick database stored on the hard disk. If the local database does not provide all the requested ticks, then missing ticks will be automatically downloaded from the trade server...
OnTick() in Expert Advisor is not a handler of every tick, it only notifies an Expert Advisor about changes in the market. It can be a batch of changes: the terminal can simultaneously make a few ticks, but OnTick() will be called only once to notify the EA of the latest market state.
