The Apple notice refers to Intel-based applications running through Rosetta on Macs with Apple silicon. It is not specifically about Intel-based Macs.
So if your Mac is Intel-based, this warning should not apply in the same way. If your Mac has an Apple chip, the message may indicate that MT5, or one of its components, is still Intel-based and may require an updated version for future macOS compatibility.
This does not mean MT5 will stop working immediately. For now, I would recommend using the official MT5 macOS package and keeping both macOS and MetaTrader updated.
Thank you, Miguel.
The link is what Apple sends out to in its notice, not something I researched by myself.
In fact, it's the second option - Mac on Apple chip running the MT5 Intel-based. Was just curious if there's any real risk on this matter (so that users are informed in advance, maybe even transitioning from Mac to Win if they still want to use MT5) or if MQ is working on it. I know it's not a concern for now but on the other hand there is no visible timeline as to the migration.
Thanks again.
Hi guys,
I'm using MT5 on my Mac and received a message on my laptop that the platform will soon no longer be available for usage due to this: https://support.apple.com/ro-ro/102527?cid=mc-ols-rosetta-article_102527-macos_finder-52526201
Does anyone know if there's any plan to update this? I tried the version from App Store but that is no way something to use on the long run; I've also tried contacting MetaQuotes with no real success - the chatbot is something really low quality.
Thanks!
Hi Bogdan,
As a developer working closely with MetaTrader integration, I understand your concern. The reality is that the macOS version of MT5 isn't a native Cocoa app; it’s essentially the Windows version wrapped in a Wine-based compatibility layer. This is why macOS sees it as an Intel application requiring Rosetta.
While MetaQuotes hasn't released a public roadmap for a native Apple Silicon (ARM) build, here are a few points to consider:
-
Stability: Even if Rosetta is eventually phased out (which usually takes Apple a few years after a transition), the Wine project is actively working on ARM64 support.
-
The VPS Alternative: For serious trading or running EAs, many professionals prefer using a Windows VPS. This bypasses all macOS compatibility issues and ensures 24/7 uptime with lower latency, regardless of Apple's OS updates.
-
Virtualization: If you want to stay on your Mac, tools like Parallels Desktop (running Windows 11 ARM) handle MT5 very efficiently on Apple Silicon.
It’s unlikely MQ will ditch Mac users given the platform's popularity, but having a "Plan B" like a VPS is always a smart move for any trader.
