MT5 Freezing When Opening EA Settings Dialog

Hello!

One of my MT5 instances suddenly stopped responding whenever I try to open the settings dialog of any EA.

MT5 appears to hang (price data still updates, though), but I can’t click anything or close the application – I have to force-quit it via Task Manager.

After restarting, the same thing happens as soon as I open the settings dialog again.

This issue doesn’t seem to depend on the EA – I’ve tried multiple, and all behave the same.

I updated to build 4885, but that didn’t help. The system has been running on Windows Server 2019 for quite a while without any issues until now.

Any ideas, other than setting up a fresh instance?

Cheers,

Andy

Check your system available memory.

Check your system available memory.

Thanks Oleksandr,

this is not an issue. Have about 60GB available with all MT instances running

Best regards,

Andy

Is this hard disk? What about RAM?

No, RAM. The machine is running on 64GB total.

Andre Schinkel:

Try closing MT5 and deleting (or renaming) the 'config' folder located at:

  • C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\MetaQuotes\Terminal\<long_hash_folder>\config

That usually fixes weird problems with dialogs. When you restart MT5, it will generate a fresh config. Sometimes it gets corrupted and causes exactly this kind of freeze.

Hope it helps.

Hey Miguel,

thanks. Can you tell if this will also "reset" running EAs? I have quiet a lot of open trades and would need to keep the states of the EAs.

I suppose without the config I will lose the trading account setup (which is not an issue)?

Thanks,Andy

No, deleting the config folder won’t affect running EAs or open trades, those are safe. You’ll just need to reconnect your trading account and reconfigure some terminal settings under 'Tools/Options'.

To be safe, just rename the folder instead of deleting it.

This way, you can always return to the previous state if you find that resetting the terminal settings doesn't solve the problem.

That worked. So the issue was somewhere in the config.

One EA lost its state but thats fine.

Thank you all for your help!

Appreciate the update. Glad to hear everything’s working now. 😉
