A person with ordinary logic (where 2+2=4) cannot understand this statement. Perhaps there are magical ways of making profits for a profitable system. Or is it supposed to use a trivial Time Machine for trivial sneak peeks?

 

The concept of Predictability is quite subjective. Of course, the statement was about honest systems, i.e. not using cheating (not applicable to ECN) techniques.

The comparison may seem incorrect, but in building a fairly reliable model (system) of ant growth (account) one does not need to be able to predict the behaviour of each ant (price-trade).

Profitable system = having statistical advantage != being able to predict.

Except that our target - a large ant (a macroscopic parameter) - strongly correlates with a microscopic action - the probability of an individual ant successfully getting food to an anthill. However, it is not important to know the prognosis for each individual ant, but rather to know the integral characteristic for the system as a whole. The same is true for a particular TS, it is important to know the average percentage of correctly predicted price movements.

Thus, we are still speaking about the necessity of forecasting, and it would be more correct to put it this way: A profitable system = a system that can make forecasts!

I disagree. Even a simple arbitrage system is profitable, while it does not predict anything and does not even use technical analysis in any way.

My system doesn't predict anything either. Again, the concept of prediction is very subjective.

 
The system does not predict = you cannot say that with such and such probability the price will reach a certain level, but it is possible to say that after a certain number of trades the probability of a certain level of AMOUNT profit will be so-and-so.
