It is a connection to a news provider (Economic Calendar) to avoid trading (or to trade) at news time.

News are devided to three types, such as following:
- Low
- Medium
- High
High news examples: Unemployment rate, central bank president speach or FOMC...
Some of them are specially for a country (FOMC: USA) and some are for all (Unemployment rate)..


 
A news filter is nice to have to avoid a lot of bad trades, but you shouldn't rely only on it as single safety feature. At least that's my opinion.

Several Indicators and common sense :)
 
Nothing works better than news,no common sense would be common if u r not aware of what's going in any currency.

Yes,i don't trade news,but definitely they are part of my strategy to put trade.
I trade on news time,catch sentiments flowing and then bingo.
