stop loss, trailing stop and breakeven

hi community,

which of these stops is best..... "stop loss", "trailing stop" or "breakeven" should be in order and why ?

i am currently trying to assess which is best, which to enable at same time or run all, i am keen to hear other peoples experiences.

thanks

It depends obviously on the system. There's no cut and dry best when it comes to stop-losses, just preferences. Imo.

When testing, I prefer to set stop loss and take profit to equal values. If you can make an EA profitable that way, it may mean you strategy is capturing some key behavior of price movement. Either that, or you've found the sweet spot in your historical data for your particular strategy. ;)

None of the 3 words are mutually exclusive. "My strategy uses a stoploss set to same as Take Profit, and then, when I hit breakeven, I change it to a trailing stop" makes perfect sense (in English, if not trading style!)

"breakeven" is a strategy (decision on where to place SL)

"stop loss" is a tactic (a way to achieve your strategy)

"trailing stop" is an action done to a stop loss
